I'm just beginning to get into it and I'm hopeful. I like the way it helps me to not be so judgmental about myself. I'm practicing it on my own because I'm not willing to right now to spend my money on a therapist. I was a little wary at first because I'm suspicious of all religion and I know it has its roots in Buddhism, but the research I've done has led me to confident that the techniques can still be successful without the religious elements. I'm especially interested in using it in order to help curb my addictive cravings, especially in regards to porn.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else had any experience in this kind of stuff, positive or negative. I'll report back eventually and let you all know how it goes for me.

Hi Jacob

I've been meditating and doing a bit of mindfulness myself lately too.. always wanted to do it on my own as well. But now my group therapist came back after 4 meetings (havent had her as the group therapist, only did the intake with her) and she told she went to a mindfulness course and she wants to form a group.

I really hope it will start soon, cause i know that being in a group can sometimes amplify the results.

I have positive experience with it, oh yes! Plain and simple, it gives me the courage to be disciplined in my daily life. If i can dedicate 10-15 min every morning to a small meditation/mindfulness practice, it somehow helps me to stay focussed a lot better than if i dont do the practice.
I've been searching on and off for a good method, but to me http://learning.tergar.org/ works pretty good. If you create a free account, you get access to introductionairy videos which are told by a very funny monk. It gave me the confidence to start the practice, even though i lack concentration..

so far, so good.. perhaps you can give it a try too, this teaching is also buddhistic, but there are no strings attached..

I have been doing mindfulness meditation as well. My T recommended doing it, as part of some of the cognitive behavioral therapy stuff we were working on.

I do about 15 minutes every day, for 2 weeks now. I really feel it helps me relax and refocus. I do it when I start to feel those triggers ramp me up. At first, I didn't think it would help, but after the first week, I started going to a deeper place with it.

Not sure where you live, but UCLA in Los Angeles has a Mindfulness Center. I went to their website first to find out more information, they have lots of things you can read about it. They also have free guided mindfulness meditations you can use that you can play from the site, or even download via iTunes. They are not religion-based at all.
