"Doctor, my eyes cannot see the sky. Is this the price for learning how not to cry"...

I don't remember where it was, but I used this Jackson Browne quote in an earlier thread. I always heard this song on the radio when I was a kid. Only recently did I really *listen* to it.

Some coincidence that is. I heard it the first time when I saw the trailer for one of my favorite movies "Crazy in Alabama", must've been roughly a decade ago, been listening to it ever since. I wish they still played songs like this on the radio.

C Husky,

This song is one of many from my early childhood that are seared into my memory---in a good way. "Doctor My Eyes" peaked on the music charts the year I was born....along with:

"You're So Vain"----Carly Simon
"Heart of Gold"----Neil Young
"Mother and Child Reunion"----Paul Simon
"American Pie"---Don McLean
"Tumbling Dice"---Rolling Stones
"Witchy Woman"---The Eagles

Not a bad year...

Will,

I wasn't acquainted with most of the songs you listed so I checked them out on youtube. What a year indeed.

I instantly fell in love with "Heart of Gold": "I've been to Hollywood, I've been to Redwood, I've crossed the ocean for a heart of gold...I've been in my mind, it's such a fine line, keeps me searching for a heart of gold...and I'm getting old." Traveling alone and sometimes being hit with feelings of longing, those lines hit me hard.

Thanks for these gems.

Will - everyone of those songs you listed has meaning for me, especially "You're So Vain" "American Pie" and "Tumbling Dice" When I hear them it takes me back in time to when I was an innocent boy, before all the abuse. Is it prophetic that "American Pie" , with the line " The day the music died" was still receiving air play at the time of my abuse? Very much a parallel with my life.
