Not all that different really than straight guys who claim they wish their female teacher had made moves on them. They have the luxury of naivete, not just in childhood but continuing into adulthood. What they think of as a bad life is nothing compared to what it could have been, so they really have no way to judge that which they are ignorant of. I don't think there is any way to fix it.
