i found this poem on another form that someone had written and i had to share this just sums up my introduction why i am here because i am in love with a survivor.

Understanding…
I know you’re hurt, confused, angry and sad.
And I try to understand…
Unspeakable and unfair horrors you’ve had to endure
And I try to understand…
You’re unable to distinguish what is real or just a pattern in your life
And I try to understand…
The pain and sorrow inside consumes you
And I try to understand…
The scars are there and unfortunately can’t be erased
And I try to understand…
You feel the need to run away from the present to escape your past
And I try to understand…
My words and feelings trigger your emotions like a fuse to a bomb
And I try to understand…
You feel uncomfortable around me, our home and our children
And I try to understand…
You believe nothing is ours, it’s yours or mine
And I try to understand…
My attempts to protect you trigger perceptions of control
And I try to understand…
Your world is shattered
And I try to understand…
You don’t need to face these demons on your own
I’d like you to understand…
I’ll always be here for you, I’ll stand by your side
I’d like you to understand…
You are my best friend with whom I can confide
I’d like you to understand…
Take the ring and the vows and put them aside if that’s what you need
I’d like you to understand…
I can be a trusted friend, just a shoulder to cry
I’d like you to understand…
I won’t judge or attempt to make you feel guilty of your emotions
I’d like you to understand…
Please turn around and don’t run away
I’d like you to understand…
Please come back and confide in me’
I’d like you to understand…
Please reach for my hand instead of that drink or that high
I’d like you to understand…
I’m not an enemy, I’m your biggest supporter
I’d like you to understand…
Even if you decide I’m not the one you love
I’d like you to understand…
I’ll still be here for you
Understand??

That is a very good poem, foreverloved, thank you for sharing. Indeed, many of the lines do closely describe the struggle for survivors and supporters alike in living with sexual abuse victims. Welcome to MaleSurvivor, here you can ask for and receive support and encouragement. You sound like a loving spouse for your survivor, thank you for supporting a fellow sufferer.
