I haven't been able to find any information on google that indicates he has an inclination to protect pedophile priets. Any bets on the chances something will change in the way the Catholic Church handles sexual abuse?

Unfortunately he seems to be just as strongly biased against homosexuality as his predecessor... But I guess you can't expect anything else from the Catholic church.

I've just read that he was opposite to adoption of children by gay couples (he is seen as conservative) but he used to criticize priests who refused to baptize children of single mothers and even talked about use of preservatives as measure to stop spreading of illnesses which is sign of progress.
I'm sure he will have to deal with battle for power in church which lost ground by it and has opened doors for abusive people, abuse and legal claims in many countries and corrupt elements including money laundering.
I guess many battles are in front of him...

I grew up in a family which was extremely rabidly fervently catholic. They were also extremely conservative, they used those excuses to blame me for incest, molestation and my gay orientation. I currently don't care for anything Roman Catholic, especially the "Pope".
