As I am navigating my normal day, I have become aware of four events that seem unrelated but are all sewn together with a common theme.

1) Washington passes Gay Marriage & La Grand, Oregon mayor posts comments on his facebook stating not just disapproval but that Washington has joined "Sodom & Gomorrah" and that LGBT citizens are an "Abomination".

2) Gresham Oregon Bakery refuses to abide by non-discrimination laws passed in 2007 by refusing to provide a wedding cake for a Lesbian Couple. The owner states they serve LGBT but stand on religious principle that LGBT are an "Abomination before God".

3) Jadin Bell, a bullied 15 yr old hangs himself on a Saturday in La Grand Oregon Schoolyard, despite being discovered and taken to a Portland Hospital he expires days later.

4) During this same period of time the PRESIDENT of the United States in his 2nd term inauguration speech cites and compares Seneca Falls (home of early womens suffrage activism conference), Selma (The March on Selma Alabama organized by Dr. M.L. King) and STONEWALL (famous violent protest against GLBT police brutality) and goes on to say "Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well..."

I am a passionate defender of civil rights for GLBT rights and the plight of gay teens in this world.

We don't just need Gay Marriage, We need to end the reign of tolerance for bigotry justified by religious belief. No one would tolerate a person making public statements that black people were inferior based upon his or her religion. It is HIGH TIME we discuss with fervent and passionate INTOLERANCE that the leaders who endorse bigotry against GLBT citizens be held responsible for the bullying behavior their stances protect.

Right on.

If that mayor is so certain he is living in Sodom & Gomorrah, why doesn't he follow Lot's example and leave?
