I would add, consider the source...and the karma (gawd, there I go gettin' mystical again).
A marginal little town with equally marginal "policies"...it's pretty much inevitable that their attempt to marginalize gay students would come back to bite 'em in the ass. In short, by marginalizing others, they marginalize themselves.
In these cases I always like to cite the "Peyton Place" movie in which the "progressive" and much-maligned assistant principal shames the citizens and school board by observing that thier most talented students leave PP and never come back because of the anal-retentive atmosphere. (lol...not too unlike the town where I was raised).
