So I'm gonna take a stab at this. The title reflects my experience and that of my friends. Over 20 years poz here. I lived without retrovirals for years and did fair. But the past few years I've felt in decline on the fatigue and infections - a couple bouts of shingles, for one. lol...CD4 of 46, VL of 81,200. Think that might be it? Found a study for an advanced med (I can't disclose here) and I start on what looks like at least a three-year journey next week...provided I'm fully compliant.
