Magellan,
I am not a therapist, but I'm surprised that any therapist would diagnose anyone with "Asperger's Syndrome" in the year 2013. I'm pretty sure it has been removed from the DSM and defined out of existence. Not sure if that makes you feel better or worse.
It's an ill-defined concept that people tend to hurl at those with some eccentric mannerisms and difficulties conceptualizing the emotions of others.
Lots of people have difficulties with relationships. The real question is, can you empathize with / understand the feelings of other people? If you're "mind-blind" you may have something that is very hard to recover from. If you're introverted and shy but understand the way people think.... that's no prize, but it can release you from the fear of having some OMG GENETIC CURSE.
Matt
