Here's a curious case:

From the IND, an alt-weekly newspaper from Louisiana:

"The arrest of [Phillip DeMahy, Sr.] the brother of a district court judge from New Iberia for allegedly possessing child pornography has escaped the attention of local media, raising the question: Is the suspect being treated with kid gloves by deferential media and local and state authorities?"

Good reporting. The judge goes on the record with the paper to say that "there were no victims," and that the perp would likely walk with a suspended sentence. Link:

Maybe they mean that there is no active search for the victims - maybe they are already safe?

Or maybe there is no evidence that the owner of the pornography victimized the children; he just has pictures and videos of someone else abusing children.

Don't give anyone a pass on this. Child pornography consists of images of real children being subjected to real sexual abuse. If a person is in possession of child pornography, they are considered guilty of the abuse of the children pictured, as if they had been the abuser themselves. It is their sick appetite for child porn that creates the market for this horror.

The abused children in this case may now be safe (lets hope so, but that is unknown) but they remain victims of the sexual abuse pictured, which as most of us know, will haunt them the rest of their lives.

See the Department of Justice website: http://www.justice.gov/criminal/ceos/subjectareas/childporn.html
