i learned today that there is an investigation ongoing of an alleged abuse incident at our school. the way it is being handled is so WRONG! the guy in charge - the same JERK who leads the child protection seminars - had BOTH the alleged victim AND the alleged perp (both students - but i have no idea the ages) in the same room at the same time while he interrogated them!!! and this is the guy we are supposed to be taking our instruction from??????????? i am beyond ANGRY!!!!!!!!!

That is the worse case scenario and obviously that guy has no competence (age is not at all important there, person that used own power over victim is always one step forward comparing to person who has been shattered by abuse)
Maybe you could find about student's ids and send them some links to resources or their parents?
Please look how to protect yourself, to stay grounded and not too much triggered.

our school is K-12 grades so it could be anything from 2 kinders or 2 hi schoolers or a kinder and a hi schooler or any combination in between.
the identities are tightly protected - i can't intervene if i wanted to.

i am not triggered - just ready to kick some butt - if only...

Ok Lee, I'm forgetting that I live in very non strict society and there is no possibility (nor law) that would keep secrets when such case happens.

I would love to learn for outcome (actually I would like to study how will they resolve the accusations and if they will protect not victims but rather abuser by very strict rules about confidentiality). Also in case if they will found that abuse happened I would like to learn how will institution (school) react, what would officials say to teachers, students, public..., what will be their official position etc.

If the incident in question was brought to the school's attention as anything even remotely close to sexual abuse/assault then this is an abhorrent and destructive mistake on the part of your resident child protection teacher/administrator. I mean it ain't like a couple of kids got into a fight out on the playground or something...

I'm with everyone else. This is INSANE!. I am shocked that in this day and age that someone 'in the know' would handle a situation like this.

What's worse is the sort of counsel and psychological assistance available to school kids. My personal experience was I told my mom what was going on at 7 so she called the school. She told them not to talk to me until she was there and upon arriving the principal told her "Publius would not be able to describe the things he did to you unless they were done to him first." However, the school counselor met with me without my mother and determined after one meeting that I was "victimized" but NOT sexually abused, whatever the fuck that means, but the general message was that I had been pressured to do these things but had not had them happen to me. There was no follow up meeting with either me or my mom. She says she still regrets not going to the police but admits it was such a relief to hear I was not actually abused that she believed in it right away. The abuse stopped from there on out, which I give myself full credit for, but the healing did not start and quite frankly I think it should have right then and there.

Now this was back in 1992 but from what I have read and seen and heard from you all things have not nearly improved as much as we might like. The inclination of school officials and services to dismiss, minimize, or straight up ignore abusive situations in their students is staggering. Am I alone in thinking this? Has anyone else had or heard of failures or successes (they are out there they have to be) on the part a school system?

i am not even supposed to know that the incident happened. if i try to intervene or ask questions i will get another staff member in trouble for violating confidentiality.
