Bless the Beasts and Children by Glendon Swarthout
don't know why i suddenly thought of this book - but i just remembered it - and what an impact it had on me. read it way back when and at the time i wasn't sure why it resonated so much - but now i know. summer camp, misfits and rejects, bullying, the bonding of fellow-victims, crazy impossible inspiring rebellion against injustice... i highly recommend it. here's a link to the novel site if you are interested in knowing more:http://www.glendonswarthout.com/novels/blessthebeasts.htm
it is a tear-jerker - and can be triggering.
this guy gets it!
We are often troubled, but not crushed;
sometimes in doubt, but never in despair;
there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend;
and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.
- Paul, II Cor 4:8-9
