I usually don't vote. Not sure what I'll do today.

My avatar is the farmhouse at the Hope Spring, OH WoR. It's a nice place.
Been too depressed lately to research the local propositions and never registered my new address.
I live in an ultra liberal city (San Francisco), and since my views are in line with much of the rest of the City, I didn't feel the need to expend the extra energy to contribute to the larger society, of which, I often feel like I'm *NOT* a part of. My vote would be inconsequential anyway. If I lived in Ohio, or Florida, however, I would have voted.
First year in years that I didn't vote.
Maybe next time.

living overseas, it's more complicated and frustrating. the first time, the absentee ballots arrived after the election was over. next time we didn't bother trying. same thing this year for many who requested them - delivery after the deadline for return.
the US PO is clueless. they will tell you that mail to our area takes 5-7 days. LOL! we have NEVER had anything arrive in less than 2 weeks and usually much longer. once it leaves the US they have no control over the fact that it may sit on a dock or in a warehouse or in a central PO waiting to go to a local one for days, weeks, even months. sometimes we have had mail finally arrive her in Asia after being misdirected from the US to the Caribbean or S. America or Africa. one time while home in the States we went to our local PO to mail something to a friend who lived near us overseas - a place we had just left weeks before. the person behind the counter told us that the address on our package (where we had been living for the past few years) did not exist!
so maybe i don't exist either? lee

Since I brought up the subject...
My participation was because I WASN'T feeling depressed or hopeless. As many of us know, one of the things that goes with depression is the feeling of being overwhelmed and that just dragging your ass out to do something like vote is too damned difficult.
Took four tries with the long lines that I could NOT deal with: two early voting attempts, one when the polls opened, and success - no line - midday.

I was really holding out hope for that one, Gary. And in Indiana yet! Guess that was the last time SHE'LL ever interrupt anyone making a presentation, huh? "Happy to report"? Hell, I'd be downright smug (and several other adjectives I can't think of right now).
Who's her replacement?

Congratulations Gary! She deserved what she got. Lancer, glad you were able to vote! Magellan, I did wind up voting, and yes, I'm in a swing state, but not a swingish as some states.

Well, I didn't need to vote. Everything I would have voted for got passed.
And much to my surprise, the California state legislature is now a supermajority democrat. With Democrats in complete control of of California government, we no longer have to deal with the constant gridlock that has hamstrung the state for years and years.
Investments in education and infrastructure are GOOD things. And I'm actually excited about our political process for the first time in decades.

Absolutely. First off, being an Ohioan allow me first to express my ineffable joy at seeing an end to all of the negative ads.
Aside from the national and state elections I took a special interest in a few local issues. Most importantly, I am happy to report I was one of many who helped pass a levy for continued funding for community mental health needs. I share smalltown80sboy's problem in my area as well. Family and Social Services around here are still woefully underfunded and overworked. I understand CSA and other forms of abuse are firstly socio-cultural problems but that doesn't mean political solutions could not mitigate or even one day help largely resolve them.
I don't think the Democrats or Republicans should be blamed for a problem that permeates all of human society and generally transcends the political arena. I hope once we successfully spread awareness of CSA's prevalence in and impact upon society to a enough people the citizenry will demand more action ($$$) be taken to address it. And unless politicians change their nature completely in the next decade or so I imagine they will do whatever is necessary to get elected with the added bonus of doing what is right as well : P

Since this is election day in the U.S., I thought about those times I didn't vote simply because I felt too depressed or hopeless.
Rather than a partisan political discussion, I'd like to hear how your decision to vote or not relates to your CSA and/or recovery.
I voted last week in early voting in Flori-DUH! DUH is for all the morons that live here, especially in N. Florida. lol After suffering needlessly for around 2 years due to a lack of healthcare coverage, it's easy to figure out who I voted for. Now, I find out Gov. Shithead, er, Rick Scott is refusing to implement any of ObamaCare in Florida turning down $500 million even for kids. Hope Gov. Shithead one day rests in hell. Par for the course in Flori-DUH!

I figure if I don't vote, I don't have any right to gripe. So I voted.
if there was a like button i would have liked
I feel the same way , I always ask people while they are in the middle of a rant Did you vote ? and 9 times out of 10 they say well no BUT ... uhhhgggg I just wanna slap um lol

You're right. This is one area that both parties have failed to adequately address. The Republicans are putting on a show here to pretend they're going to do something but Democrats aren't really standing up to them. I never heard back from my state rep - a Democrat - on my issues with the department of child services. It's really everybody's problem because it's everywhere: churches, schools, families, Boy Scouts, etc. yet no serious attempt to address the problem.
I thought this apathy could be side-stepped by going straight to the government but they are just as apathetic. I mean, has anyone actually campaigned on child abuse? I'll probably be spending a lot of time beating my head against the proverbial brick wall, but I'm still going to try and reason with my representatives when they reconvene in January. But social attitudes also need to change and I'll try to find ways to work on that as well.
Just curious, what does Male Survivor do in the political arena? They have offices in DC I think.

Since I live in a state where the result of the presidential election was not in doubt, I felt liberated to vote for a 3rd party candidate to express my displeasure at the two-party system.

Yep, voted for my preference between the 2 top candidates.
