To all you American east coast survivors - I'm thinking of you. I hope that none of you have more trauma in your lives due to the pending natural disaster. My thoughts are with you.

I've been watching the CNN news, the hurricane on the east coast really looks bad. NYC the home of the international conference this year looks like it will be hit.

I'm still coming to NYC for the conference - nothing will keep this South African away.

I'm WELL north of the actual hurricane, and the conditions are shocking. Its NUTS. The wind is crazy strong. I expect the power to go out for a week at least in most parts of New England, roads to be blocked by trees and wires and heavy flooding. My town has been entirely cut-off in previous floods. We are too small for ANY FEMA or state aid to ever seek us out.

I USE to have a house fully equipped for frequent weather emergencies: TWO large generators, 1 week of continuous fuel. A year of rotating food stocks, our own water well, etc. My ex dumpped ALL of that stuff, seemingly out of spite. Now my own little place is fully non-equipped...no back-up resources at all except food and bottled water...but no source of heat.
