I've been looking for some time to find some sort of understanding of how the passage of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) would affect us CSA survivors and our access to health care.

I couldn't figure it out on my own, and even reaching out to my Congressman's office didn't do any good. But today, while trying to sort out my own health insurance stuff (which is really confusing for me, and possibly triggering), I found this little nugget:

Because of Obamacare, insurance companies can no longer impose annual limits on mental health visits. So your co-pay is good every week all year long.

That's great news, and it makes healing and hope more available to us in need.

My co pay does not carry all year long. It is capped.

Ugh. You were totally right. I get 10 visits per calendar year, and then I'm on my own.

The Obamacare provision is about capping annual maximums, not about providing co-pays. Confusing and frustrating and triggering.

Was on hold for 17 minutes only to be talked at and condescended to for the crime of not understanding insurance policies.

If only we could pass a law to make this shit better...

No offence to my American friends but when I hear such stories about health care down there I am glad to be Canadian.

No offense taken. Our health care system here sucks, and it triggers the hell out of me.
