Have been following the story here in Portland since Tuesday. I thought the two remarkable parts of the story is that the boy had the ability to run and seek help and that the man who was doing a bbq at midnight called the police and helped the boy out. I hope these are signs of a positive changes setting in the broader society. I remain too angry about how I was treated by the church and its attorneys to have any hope real change can happen there.

in trying to teach adults that this stuff happens
... have we instead taught the children it's ok to scream for help?

I am glad the victim felt empowered to run. Maybe with awareness children will learn they can run and not fear being hurt or taken away. Now adults, need to face the realities--this happens more than anyone wants to admit. And remember the victim has a lifetime of hurt and pain. Only with understanding and acceptance can one feel safe. Glad they got the bas**ard.

I can't help but laugh. This creeper priest is now a punchline for all eternity, literally chasing a boy down the street in his underwear.

It could be a story for The Onion, but it's real life.

And yes, that kid is a hero.

Seems to me, this padre killed the "secrecy" thing when he ran down the street in his skivvies. He knew his ass was grass, if the boy made it to a neighbor's place.

So, c'mon parents, guardians, social workers: no matter how wonderful you think your local priest is, DON'T let him take your kids to "sleepovers."
