i sit here and watch the night sky roll in
wanting so much to catch the stars above
the coolness of night
and the security it provides like a safety blanket

how it turns the magnificent blues
from the lightest blues
to the middle hues of blue
to the darkest of them all with a little purple

how the stars sparkle like lights turning on and off
forming shapes with them if you know how to look
and telling stories of those shapes if you know
the wonders of even seeing a star flying through night

i like watching the night sky for its calming
i can still see the clouds at times
times there are no stars and no moon to see
yet you can see just blackness

tonight i am watching it with streaks of lightning
the storm is brewing out there in the dark night
wonderfully risen streaks from ground up
beautiful streaks of jagged energy forming

the breeze picks up and we see the clouds move faster by
the stars seem to twinkle more brighter
the storm is coming over us and getting closer
stars still burning bright and moon still out facing it

as the storm moves in over the night sky
the storm here brews harder and faster
still looking into the sky as darkness approaches
i close my eyes tonight in the face of horror yet still see the lightening and the stars i so intently drove into my mind...

a good reminder to always remember that the stars are there - even when storm clouds hide them.
