So...

Now that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional, are there any provisions in it that help survivors like us get affordable treatment, counseling and care?

In my experience and the experiences of others I've read about on these forums, the care we desperately need as survivors is often expensive and out-of-reach for those of us on the margins.

Talk therapy is expensive, and survivors need talk therapy from qualified professionals.

The "free" care offered by the state-run facility in my small town in Kentucky fails to begin to be sufficient to my needs as a survivor.

Therefore, are there any provisions in the ACA that makes access to survivor care easier or more affordable?

If not, is there any organized lobbying efforts underway by MS or other advocacy groups to make our health care needs known to policy makers?

Never thought about CSA as a "pre-existing condition" -- but yep, it sure is.

Thanks, Gary. Working on sorting this out.

Hi Guys,

For those who cannot afford the premiums, and meet the other income requirements, there are going to be vouchers given to indigent and other qualified individuals to pay the premiums.

Gentlemen,

I have contacts with some of the folks at SAMSHA and HHS and can hopefully push this part of the agenda forward with their help. Anyone who has the time and inclination to do some research on the ACA and can share with me any insights/recommendations they have please email me - canderson@malesurvivor.org

If there is enough interest generated in this, perhaps we can form a small MS working group to make official recommendations to the feds. I get the sense that there are a lot of pieces of the implementation of this that are up for grabs.

Chris

Here's this from a post on a different thread that I thought was relevant:

"Here in Australia, the government runs a free online counselling service, so i will start there and see what happens"
