Whoa! Kill the PSU football program. Awesome idea!

Do it and take down Cover-up Joe Paterno's "statue" while they are at it. Yo, Catholic Church, your Pope is no different than this loser!

You can download the 267 page report here: http://thefreehreportonpsu.com/

The President, a Senior Vice President, and General Counsel did not perform their duty to make timely, thorough and forthright reports of these 1998 and 2001allegations to the Board. This was a failure of governance for which the Board must also bear responsibility.

We also found that:
• The Board did not have regular reporting procedures or committee structuresto ensure disclosure of major risks to the University;
• Some Trustees felt their meetings were a “rubber stamp” process for Mr.

Spanier’s actions;
• The Board did not independently ask for more information or assess the underreporting by Spanier about the Sandusky investigation after May 2011 and thereby failed to oversee properly his executive management of the worst crisis in Penn State’s history;
• The Board was over-confident in Spanier’s abilities to handle crises and wasunprepared to deal with:

o the filing of criminal charges against senior University leaders and a prominent former football coach in November, 2011; and,
o the firing of Coach Paterno.

From 1998–2011, Penn State’s “Tone at the Top” for transparency, compliance, police reporting and child protection was completely wrong, as shown by the inaction and concealment on the part of its most senior leaders, and followed by those at the
bottom of the University’s pyramid of power. This is best reflected by the janitors’ decision not to report Sandusky’s horrific 2000 sexual assault of a young boy in the
Lasch Building shower. The janitors were afraid of being fired for reporting a powerful football coach.

Freeh's statement except. Guy is pissed. He should be.

If the students who nearly rioted when Paterno was quite properly fired had any character, they would get rid of the statue with or without the administration.

Alumni as well.

A quote to ponder from all the news coverage:

"The Freeh report recounts all the boys known to have been molested after Paterno and other members of the Penn State staff learned of a 1998 incident involving Sandusky and a boy in a shower. The report is explicit that Penn State officials vowed to treat Sandusky "humanely," but showed no such concern for the boys he forced into sexual situations. Who was the boy Mike McQueary saw in the shower? It wasn't a question officials asked in 2001. He still has not been found."

This should have been taken down long ago. I am glad to see young people took a stance and saw those that accepted, hid and as a result of these actions encouraged more abuse have learned and have shown what many adults have not, courage and their unwillingness to accept acts that violate a person will not be applauded or recognized despite other accomplishments of the enablers. My hats off to these young people--be proud and continue to live a life of compassion and belief every human needs dignity.

I'm pretty sure that Weekly World News story is bogus. The statue is still up.

It's been very cleverly photoshopped. But I like it anyway.

Report: Paterno contract deal reached amid scandal

Paterno and the university reached agreement on the amended contract that eventually totaled $5.5 million in August, months before charges were filed against Sandusky, but they began negotiating in January, The New York Times reported Saturday.

The amended contract, which was reported on by The Associated Press in April, included a $3 million career bonus if Paterno retired at the end of the 2011 season, as well as well as forgiveness of $250,000 in outstanding indebtedness and an additional $100,000 in loans.

I like to go to the local Pennsylvania sites for info on sandusky crimes.

Here's a local article on the statute:

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2012/07/joe_paternos_statue_at_penn_st.html#incart_mce

They have a poll on it, and more than 60% are saying remove it.

Today on Meet the Press, Bob Costas said something to the effect of, "If there is football being played at Penn State in September, there's a problem" -- meaning either the school should voluntarily shut down football for a season, or the NCAA should step in and do it.

So good to see and hear people advocate for us, but then there's that eff-ing statue! Makes me crazy thinking about one person who wants it to stay up, much less the thousands who will defend it until they tip over media vans.

great to hear--sadly the young athletes who may be totally innocent and supportive of the victims will be deprived of the opportunity to play and for maybe one or two their future in the pro's forever changed. The administration screwed up royally--but there has to be better sanctions-- community service for the administration, training and education and public advocacy of the need to be vigilant in identifying and reporting these heinous acts. Profits from the program should be diverted to support advocacy groups and therapy for victims of CSA--it should be branded on their banners- advocacy for CSA as well as on the jersey's. The world needs to be reminded there are so many victims of this crime and so many are in denial about it and its impact on the lives of the victims.

Profits from the football program should be diverted to therapy for victims of CSA --- AMEN!!!!

That would be a great outcome. "Scholarships" for CSA therapy. All comers! It's quite an expense.

Great idea!

It upsets me when people's defense of Penn State is, "Well don't punish the players. They didn't do anything wrong." -- Like the players should be anyone's top priority.

Tough shit, players. Go transfer to an SEC school and play some real football for a season or two.

It really bothers me when people say the players had nothing to do with it. If you scan enough interview of players, etc., you find that Sandusky always had a boy with him and many saw his demeanor around them as inappropriate. Victims have come forward now dating back to the 70s. I know we are all floored and shocked by that. Are you going to tell me that from 1977 (year 2nd Mile was formed) until 1998, noone saw or heard anything inappropriate? Do you believe that nobody saw anything else clear up until he was arrested in November 2011? At this point too, any recruit signing on to Penn State cannot say they were unaware of the scandal. They really aren't that stupid.

Joe Nocera, on the NY Times opinion page, says "Throw the book at Penn State."

It's a fairly milquetoast argument related to comparative policing of NCAA rules violations -- it's hardly the spanking that Gregg Doyel has been dishing out lately -- but his point is well made: throw the book at them.

Mark Madden, radio host from Pittsburgh, he has our backs, too. Here's a link to his recent blog post: "Penn State: A 2012 Users Guide," which basically attempts to put Penn State fans in their place, but will likely matter little:
http://www.1059thex.com/pages/markmadden.html?article=10274980

It also should be noted that Madden is the first and so far only person to claim to have knowledge of a "rumor" that Sandusky was pimping boys out to wealthy donors:
