While I agree with the sentence, the comments of the both the judge and the defence attorney are ridiculous. The judge said he had to take into account that she didn't "force" the victims, even though they are below the age of consent and that she got them drunk before initiating sex with them. If that isn't force then what is? Her defence attorney remarked after sentencing that he hopes she'll receive some programs in jail to learn how to be a better parent. God help us if parents need to take courses to prevent them from having sex with kids. Like I said, ridiculous.

There is a phrase, "by the color of authority". This predator was "the authority", entrusted with the care and safety of these innocent children. These boys trusted her, they felt safe and were there for fellowship with their teammates. These boys are 14 years old, and she got them drunk and had sex with TWO of them at once! If this would have been a 37 year old man that got a girl's volleyball team drunk and had sex with two 14 year old girls at the same time, I wonder if the judge would rule the same way!?!!

The on-line comments some people made in relation to the article are very tell tale. You know, the usual guy comments like its not really abuse since what boy doesn't want to get some from a female cougar etc, etc. My question to them is how does the adult perpetrator's gender have anything to do with what counts as sexual abuse toward children? For example, if it was a grown man having sex with these boys I'll bet they would change their tune, but not for the right reasons since it would only be their homophobia speaking, rather than genuine outrage at the sexual abuse of kids. In light of this thinking some people really should just shut up already.

Indeed homophobia, and a tragedy that it takes precedence over inalienable human rights. Perps need to address their offending and be sentenced equally. Children need to feel safe and validated in every context.

Some folks will keep marching with their band even when they are playing out of "tune".

The genders of the perpetrators are irrelevant in my mind. So are the genders of the child victims. Sexual abuse should be assessed simply by what adults do to kids. Nothing more, nothing less.
