Published 1999 by Norton, Monsters fits in with the Palahniuk theme of over-the-top characters engaged in over-the-top plots. Readers may remember another of his books made into the movie of the same name: Fight Club. Monsters is a violent whirl wind where no one's identity is for sure and the takeaway is: get out of your comfort zone. There are lots of cross-dressers, pill poppers, disfiguring accidents and destructive wedding day explosions along the way. All told in stylized prose through flashbacks and flash forwards at a mile a minute pace. I wild ride for those who enjoy deviant lit.
I've got a bike you can ride it if you like.
Its got a basket, a bell that rings
And many other things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could -but I've borrowed it.
