Someone posted this on my Facebook page--I thought it was so touching and telling. As a victim and survivor I understand the last three lines all too well. No one really knows us, how we think, how we act, why we act the way we do--it is not right but the bullying we endured tainted us for a lifetime. It is not until we begin to heal can anyone know us. Anyone who has been bullied, young or old, will understand.
The boy you punched in the hall today.
Committed suicide a few minutes ago.
That girl you called a slut in class today.
She’s a virgin. The boy you called lame.
He has to work every night to support his family.
That girl you pushed down the other day.
She is already being abused at home
That girl you called fat.
She’s starving herself.
That old man you made fun of because of the ugly scars.
He fought for our country.
The boy you made fun of for crying.
His mother is dying.
You think you know them.
Guess what?
You don’t.
