My name is Jack and I am 33 years old. I have recently decided to start adressing abuse that I went through while in foster care in my early teens. I did not know this website and support was availble untill my girlfriend found it online and dicrected me to it... While I never buried or supressed the abuse I choose to ignore it and act like there was nothing worng for years. I know that the affects of the abuse showed up in my life in other self distructive ways and inappropiate self image and relationships. I have recently been open and working my way through understanding what happened and how to process and put it in the past with the least amout of damage.

Welcome Jack,
I am glad you are here, although the reason is sad, you are looking for relief and hope to find it here. Many survivors of sexual abuse have been helped to find what you are looking for here in MaleSurvivor, I trust you will too.

Good work being open and processing the issues abuse has overwhelmed us with, and though it never goes away, the abuse controls are limited with reason and maturing.

You are on the right path,

Hey, Jack!

very good step to start dealing with it all NOW. many of us wish we had done that years ago. but not having buried or suppressed the memories - as you say - that's a very good thing. gives you a huge head start.

hoping we can all share in your healing,
We are often troubled, but not crushed;
sometimes in doubt, but never in despair;
there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend;
and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.
