Light Blindness

Why is it I refuse to look away
From that singular light
So bright with glaring facts
It blinds my sight from truth?

I blink,
I squint,
I tilt my head low
But the rays scald,
Blistering corneas
Scorching my iris
‘til hues bleach dull
Dilating pupils
To a blinding,
Pin dot view.

No answer exists
That justifies
The sight of the light
I did not choose
Yet,
I refuse the reach
That would,
With a spread
Bring too dull
That bright light
I clearly know
Blinds my sight

I love the way you have explained why we do the things we do to survive. To the outsider it makes no sense but for survivors we accept it as part of the package Thanks Mike

Thanks mike13 for the validation. I'm finding that for me I'm beginning to question my looking back at what was. It's important to do this (Looking back at past events) but there comes a time when starring backwards can sets one up to trip and stumble over current, unrelated issues interupting advancement. So, I'm in an internal power struggle. How much time do I invest in the rear view mirror verses looking with grand excitement and expectation as to what is in front of me?

"...looking with grand excitement and expectation as to what is in front of me?

This is what I am hoping for, what I want from all these years of pain and tears. You describe the assent so well as usual. Thanks!
