I just had a good breakthrough. Some of you following the Ayres trial last year might remember that he testified that he was taught at Yale that boys did not need chaperons present when being examined by a doctor.

Exact testimony:
Ayres lawyer: Is that what you were taught, that you should have somebody present when you examined a girl?

Ayres: Yes.

Ayres' lawyer: Were you ever taught that you needed somebody present when you examined a boy?

Ayres: No. At Yale, in pediatrics and....

Well, I just talked to a doctor who did his first year of pediatrics with Ayres at Yale in 1956-1957. I have mentioned him before - he's the one who like Ayres, went on to become a psychiatrist but in fact became far more prominent than Ayres. This psychiatrist was the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health.

I asked him if he was taught that boys didn't need chaperons during the medical examination when he was at Yale.

The doctor shot this down immediately. He said: "I do not remember ever being taught that a chaperon was not needed when being examined."

This doctor is willing to testify for the prosecution. The mother of a victim gave his name to the prosecutor three months ago. The prosecutor said she has contacted this prominent doctor, but he says she has not.

This is one of those facts that can so easily be debunked. In my opinion, the prosecution should have debunked this at the trial. But they just let Ayres get away with his lie about boys not needing chaperons!

Kidneythis posted today about former doctor Scott Strickland, who molested a boy from when he was 9 through 15 in Oregon.

Strickland was arrested in January and has already pleaded guilty and will serve at least nine years in prison. He is also paying his victim over a million dollars.
He had already had his medical license stripped in 1999 for "inappropriate behavior" and for falsely claiming that he was board certified in internal medicine.

How is it that the Oregon district attorney's office was able to move so fast on this one? It was a mere six months between the time Strickland was arrested and his guilty plea.

Also, it was only eight months between the time the identical twin pediatricians Dr. Scott and Dr. Mark Blankenburg were arrested in Ohio and their convictions. This case was unbelievably complicated and involved 78 counts of child molestation, possession of child porn and bribery.

Since Dr. Earl Bradley was arrested in Delaware in December of 2009, he has not only been kept in prison but his prolific pedophile behavior (over 200 children molested) has resulted in sweeping changes in the state of Delaware that makes a chaperon mandatory when a doctor is examining a child.

In the case of Calgary, Alberta psychiatrist Dr. Aubrey Levin, charged with molesting males sent to him by the courts, the Alberta district attorney's office has gone back and interviewed everyone who was ever sent to Aubrin by the courts. They are doing this because the men's cases may have become tainted by Levin's examinations.

In the case of pedophile child psychiatrist Dr. Miguel Frontera, the Maryland Board of Physicians has permanently revoked his license, although he has yet to be criminally charged.

By contrast, it's been over three years since Ayres was arrested. Why hasn't anyone in San Mateo County done what the Calgary DA has done, and tried to determine which boys sent through the courts were molested?

Why hasn't San Mateo State Senator Leland Yee - a child psychologist himself - proposed changes to California law on the issue of doctors having chaperons in the room, as they have already done in Delaware?

Why hasn't California Attorney General Jerry Brown permanently revoked Ayres' license, as Dr. Frontera's was in Baltimore?

Why didn't the San Mateo Civil grand jury take action after the San Mateo Citizens Review Panel gave them the names of doctors who strongly suspected Ayres was molesting boys and did nothing?

Why hasn't the San Mateo DA moved faster on the Ayres case- when it has been shown time and time again that around this country, other states can successfully criminally prosecute pedophile doctors more swiftly and decisively?

I think I can answer one part of that. They aren't looking for other victims because the central premise of how they look at things is essentially "don't stir shit up" and that is based on looking at government as an economic entity rather than what it should be which is the Authority and Arbitor of what is right.

Its an economic decision to limit payout for those damaged. They have looked at things this way so long and the insurance industry has worked so hard to create these false impressions of all people seeking damages as being suspect and motivated by money it seems somehow rational when clear statement of the facts as you have done shows this up easily.

The San Mateo prosecutor on the Ayres case, Melissa Mckowan and the San Mateo DA's office are being sued for fraud by a mother of a victim in another child abuse case. They say that Melissa lied to the judge so she could get out of the case by saying to the judge that the child did not want to testify. The family got a bunch of victims groups to support them in their suit - including Mark Klaas, father of Polly. They held a press conference at the Redwood City courthouse on August 9, 2010 to denounce the actions of the DA's office and the prosecutor.

What concerns many of those following the Ayres case is that the prosecutor has been caught making some inconsistent statements about what she has and has not done in terms of contacting witnesses for the Ayres case.

Some in the Bay Area news media are saying privately that the San Mateo District Attorney's office may not want to win the Ayres case because Ayres had a contract with the juvenile courts and this would pave the way for lawsuits to the County.

Sounds possible. Gosh I hope not but I think a pre-emptive strike of putting that thought out publically might divert them from that tack.

That Mark Klass guy really creeps me out. I never once got the sense that he cared about anything other than himself. He in't even her real father he is her step father. He's just plain creepy to me. Maybe he reminds me of an abuser.

I stand corrected

At his first criminal trial, Dr. Ayres testified that a Yale child psychiatrist named "Al Songden" - who really turned out to be a Dr. Al Solnit taught him how to do physicals on children. This turned out to be false. Ayres also insisted at the trial that Yale taught him that a doctor didn't need to have a chaperon in the room when giving genital exams to boys.
