i remember seeing this live on the yellow brick road tour when i was about 12 or 13 years old. it blew me away.
it was the first BIG concert i ever went to. i was hooked.
i decided to become a professional musician right then and there, but it took many years to reach that goal.

decades later, i had the honour of working as stagehand on 3 elton john shows, but i never really liked any of his songs after bernie taupin left.

well here i am - back again for some inspiration.

this is a tear jerker for me, it makes me cry every time but i keep coming back for more. i even learned the guitar part.
i use music like a key to unlock emotions.




one of the proudest moments in my career was working with joan baez. i could not believe she was still touring, and i pulled every string i had to get on this show. it was an outdoor concert, in a lovely park, on a beautiful evening. everything was perfect.
i broke all the rules to get close enough to her in the wings to actually have a conversation with her. i even confessed that she was one of my idols. this is very unprofessional but it was one of those now-or-never, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities i could not pass up. she was very gracious and down to earth. one of those golden moments.

way back in 1971, the first time i heard it, when i was about 10 years old, i experienced goose-bumps.
it freaked me out, because no song had ever done that before.
i think it was the swirly phase-shifter effect that triggered it.
