so busy building
      strengthening walls
            adding the best bricks
                  so nothing falls

quick-setting mortor
      to hold all in place
            hands moving swiftly
                  as if in a race

security everything
      safety comes first
            keeping out danger and evil
                  or worse

too late i notice
      and there is no doubt
            instead of sheltering myself in
                  i've walled myself out

Wonderful poem (sad as hell) and an interesting one on the heels of your “time marches on” poem. Both carry a powerful message clearly presented and hopefully in doing so you’ll see that you your poems are a wonderful way of unstacking the bricks and that you are not as alone as you may feel.

I would like to think we will all, someday, look back at those walls as ancient ruins.
Good writing. I connected immediately. Thanks.

even "ruins" would be nice I think, whether or not "ancient"

Interesting perspective. I really like it a lot and awesomely written. For me I always felt like I had walled myself in. I imagine the Poe story about the person getting slowly bricked in, but from the perspective of being on the inside.
