My little town has an old (as in OLD) one-room schoolhouse from 1835. It sits tween a paved road and an ancient pre-revolutionary colonial road. There's a huge graveyard of people in the town center who attended class there.
It shut-down as a school about 80 years ago and eventually became a residence. Residing in the school has always been considered a priviledge and an honor. No one will ever be allowed to disrespect the school.
This past Saturday, I stopped the car in front of the old place to answer a cell call. The kids went nuts about the sign; "For Rent." After 4 days of the owner calling everyone in town about my "character and nature" he still is gonna let me move in!
My kids will have a place without Hells Angels downstairs and nuckleheads brawling
ALL THE TIME next door...or knocking on the back door looking for liquor or money.
So, as of Feb 1, 2012, the little red-brick school will have a new Board. I get to be a hero to my kids again. They will be able to have a dog and a billion square-miles of woods.
