When I was 14 I was tested for AIDS because nobody knew why I was constantly sick, and just be safe, I managed to talk my mom into taking me to get tested. The results came back negative, but I have been tested two or three times since just to make sure, and the test results have all come back negative.

When I was about 21 I was sexually assaulted--again. Later on my perpetrator approached me with a piece of paper saying that he tested positive for an STD,(I don't remember which one), and laughed about it. I never got tested because I was too embarrassed and ashamed, and also because I cannot afford it. However, since then, I have wanted to get tested for all the STD's--including AIDS--just to make sure that I don't have anything.

It has been about seven or eight years since the encounter and I have not really noticed any symptoms of any disease. Should I still get tested, or just not worry about it? where can I go? Who can I talk to? What if the test results came back positive? What can I do?

There are a lot of free clinics out there that will test you. Shame is something that is hard to deal with but knowing is the best knowledge.

For your sake you owe it to yourself to know what might or might not be.

Be stronger than your shame and go get checked. You are a fighter and you will come out much stronger knowing.

Be Strong!!

Hi, TW.

Definitely get tested. Your local community services board more than likely offers free, anonymous testing. They won't even ask your name. They'll test you, and give you a slip of paper with an ID number for you to bring back maybe two weeks later. They'll match the number on the slip of paper to the number on their list of results. You'll know your status, and they WON'T know your name. Good luck!

Peace,

John

I approached my clergy about this early last night about being tested, and he is quite supportive. He said that he knows a doctor who would be able to test me for all the STD's--including HIV--at no cost. He is going to try and get me in sometime next week.

I went to see the doctor today, and she told me that--if anything--I may have Herpes. I sure hope not.

TW,
With that you can find out when your breakouts happen and know that you need to be more careful when you are thinking of having sex. Yo then can get on a medication that only needs to be taken when you are having outbreaks. Sometimes you may not even have outbreaks. If that is the only thing you need to worry about then that is good.

Be Strong buddy!!

I just got another test result back--which I was not expecting as I thought I had them all--and it came back positive. I don't know what to do.

tw

well I am here to say we love you no matter what..and there might be some follow up tests, and a referral to a specialist. There are many meds to try and everyone will have different reactions and success with the different therapies. I am not a medical person, and being gay ...Even playing safe, there are lapses and I dread the tests...one just never knows..

In the past you seemed up and down with bi, girls, friends, closeness. I totally relate to that and it can mess with your mind..like is my workout buddy rubbing on me in some secret way>>.I dunno...I usually ignore those fleeting impulses...dating sucks for me anyway so once I accept that the bars suck...being sober and fit are awesome...I tend to meet guys that are similar and dynamic..it is not easy and maybe change your off duty time and try new stuff..art...whatever..

Ok happy holidays

Jeffrey

TW I have a saying that might apply One disaster at a time. There are many drugs available to help. Please call on us for emotional support. The test results can be very devastating. Bill and Don took it very hard when they got their test results but that was the worst past of their battle. Once the guessing was over and we developed a battle plan, things improved greatly. Please don't be a stranger we want to help. Your brother Mike

TW,

Knowing is better than NOT knowing. Once you know, you know which tool box to break open and what tools to use. As the others have pointed out here, there are meds and treatments to manage things like this.

I know shame is damned difficult to work past - sis and I had to test out as well, we both came back positive for HSV. It's better, in the long run, for yourself, and anyone you might decide to get involved with - if you know already. This way you can manage your symptoms, manage the illness, and possibly prevent the long-term complications that can come from an unmanaged illness of this nature.

It took a lot of strength to seek out and do the testing, bro. You should be proud of yourself for doing that! Take care of you, and follow up with the proffessionals and treatments as they may come.

Better late then never I guess, so here goes. You don't say what you tested positive for, so I would suggest in the interim that you get re-tested. I know that it was really hard going in the first place, but this is really important. A friend of mine tested positive for an STD a while ago, and he had been celibate for years. It turned out it was a false positive. But until he had verifying tests done, it was terrifying. Get re-tested, and make sure the tests are correct.

In the meantime, take care of yourself, and don't forget to breathe.

Jim
