I used to look forwards to my 23rd birthday. The statute of limitations would expire and I wouldn't have to worry about pressing charges. I wasn't ready to testify in court. I was afraid of telling my family what happened. I was afraid of a what a police investigation might find. Most of all, I was ashamed that, as child, I generally went along with it.

My 23rd Birthday just passed. In retrospect, I'm starting to regret my decision. My perp shouldn't have gotten away with molesting me. As a child, I was weak and let it happen. As an adult, I was weak and let him get away with it.

Hi Edward, you may want to check on the statute of limitations for your state. It may still be worth your while to report him.

I was raped by a stranger in a city park outdoor restroom in daylight. In 2004 I found this site. Come 2006 I was finally ready to go back to where the rape took place. That same day, I reported the rape to the police. I wanted them to know what had happen there so they could keep a eye on the place. It gave me saterfation to know I had done the best I could to prevent another rape from taking place at that location.

I don't know where you live but I do know that alot of states are changing the statute of limitations law and making it retroactive for a small period of time (30 to 60 days), you might want to keep checking in the news incase your state or country does this. You can also go to your local prosecutors office and ask if they could let you know if this ever happens.

It might be too late to prossecute the crimes against you, but you could still report it and be a wittness to his past offenses should someone younger comes forward to press charges. I did this at 31, long, long after statute of limitations. I knew he did it to others back when I was a kid, why would he have stopped? I figured at least a visit from some detectives might at least get to him somehow. I imagined him pissing his pants after answering the door, I would've loved to have seen that

I contacted the county prossecutor's office after hearing that my perp (uncle) was baby sitting his grand daughter. Doing this also meant that I would be telling the rest of the family which I did. When I called the prossecutor's office, they told me to come down to make a report in person, it was a scarey idea at the time, but once I started it was ok. I felt good leaving there, kind of enpowered.

One thing Edward: These guys don't stop their crimes just because YOU grew older and/or moved-on. He's likely still into something wrong and creepy. They just busted a creep here in my town for having child porn on his computer. You never know what the detectives will find with a little "probable cause" at their disposal.

Don't report it to regular cops though. Go right to the sex-crimes people OR the Assistant DA in charge of sex crimes.

George and Robbie make very good points. I won't add to what has already been said, but I do agree. In my case it involved a peer and the circumstances would not really allow a charge to be pressed (though I was clearly violated.) I was able to confront him online though somewhat recently, though he was too much of a coward to respond. Anyway, you deserve to take back your power. It is your right.
