I'd think you have the option to say that you prefer to just interact with others in the main room only when someone send you a private message. As long as you say it in a polite way, anyone should respect and understand that. if they don't, then, there is and ignore button you can use. Sounds harsh, but we all have the right to set our boundaries.
That is how I'd handle it, but that's just me... I don't know if there is a way to disable the PM feature in the chat room. You could send a message to one of the administrators and they should be able to answer that question for you for you.
