The kidnapped kid, Jaycee Lee Dugard to be interviewed tonight (July 10, 2011).

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jaycee_dugard

She has written a book which will be out soon.

She was kidnapped at age 11, and was held captive for 18 years while law enforcement slept.

What surprised me was, when Diane Sawyer asked how old she was when she bore her own baby in the backyard, she replied: "14".

I intend to watch it.

Tonight, (July 15) ABC's 20/20 offered more interviews with girl survivors of kidnap. I watched it and I thought it was a constructive session. ABC said they had a very large number of people watching the Jaycee Dugard interview. They wondered how the girls were doing today (they are now 18, so it is 10 years later). They also posed the question as to how the girls managed to escape. Very interesting and perhaps valuable information for children.

They said that Jaycee's therapy involved horses. Horses help survivors because they build trust in troubled people. That sounds good. By the time she was kidnapped she had already established a good personality and had a very positive relationship with her mother.

I think that I survived my bout for several reasons:
1. My family was coming for me. He said he was going to say that I was a victim of drowning.
2. I had "told" already. Although I think this made the torture worse, it was possibly important.
3. I maintain that he did kill me by asphyxiation and that I saw light all around and came back to life. (divine intervention) That was on Thursday night. The parents were due to pick up their children on Saturday.

How am I now, 60 years later? I am nearly free of depression. I don't dissociate very much anymore. I am able to enjoy life. I am well over my problems with music and reading and attention. I have had tons of counseling and EMDR and hypnotherapy. I have read many books and articles on abuse. I talk about it here on MS. This allows me to get my thinking correct.

Allen,

Thank you for posting the thread on kidnappings for I had never seen it before. I have a family function/trip today so I will wait until another day to read some the postings.

I have finally come to the conclusion that it is good to look at all of the elements of that night.

Thanks for those links.

I gave the first Jaycee Lee Dugard documentary made by a British company a bad review and said they should've made an updated documentary rather than re-running the old one when the perps were sentenced without so much as a title card.

They seem to have done the update at last, when it's shown next Thursday I'll check for online links, though I don't know whether non-UK viewers will be able to see them.
