In speaking to male sexual abuse victims over my time here in MS, I am finding a number who had been physically abused, either in the sexual abuse or as a result of reinforcement.

Physical abuse attached to sexual abuse is dark, black dark. To speak on this subject and having experienced not only the sexual abuse but the acting out, and the physical trauma, takes all the reasoning and calming I can muster, just to push the keys on the computer. My parents did not understand in their limitations, that this little boy, this sexually abused boy, was angry and miserable, and the only way he could express that was through his actions. Breaking, snapping, fighting, screaming, flailing, running, and every other overwhelming trigger induced overreaction.

I third this motion. I don't recall much of the sexual part of the abuse because I fainted. Mine began and ended with physical torture for my abusers' pleasure.

The physical abuse aspects of my rapes influence me as much as the sexual aspects, not to mention physical abuse as a child...

I'll add my voice to the growing choir.

I'd like to see a defined area for speaking on these issues as well, since I think we can all agree that sexual abuse rarely occurs without other damaging effects being in the mix, too. In my own case, it was the physical abuse by my father that made me the weak, compliant child that made the sexual abuse by others later easier. It'd be good to have a place to talk about physical abuse and its own set of baggage that it brings.

Bodies memories as a physical manifestation of the physical abuse endured surrounding sexual abuse can manifest itself as gastrointestinal, PTSD, skin memories, unexplained bone aches, chills and fever, and a plethora of other symptoms.

While Physical Abuse is its own disorder, and the sufferers of this terrible atrocity need a place and specialized solutions, there are many sexual abuse survivors that self report physical abuse as an important and manipulative segment of sexual abuse, making the two inseparable in treating for recovery.

This really raises a good question! Reading the posts only confirms how important this is to me, too. The pairing of physical abuse with sexual abuse makes it all the more complicated to sort through the issues. Not that sexual abuse isn't bad enough.

I really hadn't thought of it in quite the way until this moment. Having a place for those of us who have survive both physical and sexual trauma would be sincerely appreciated.
