Last Friday I came down with the flu and spent all weekend in bed. Monday I went to the doctor and was given the usual to battle the flu. I lost my voice Sunday and I can't talk on the phone or even hold a conversation in person. I feel muted and inferior for some reason. It sucks. I'm not sure why all these feelings are getting kicked up. I can't go to T tomorrow and had to cancel that. Guess all I can do is post and chat for now. I'm just happy that it isn't permanent. Ugggghhhh!

Andy,

Do you feel like this is imposed silence of a sort? Or it reminds you of that? The oddest things can make a survivor feel out of control - things others would have trouble understanding why the impact would even exist.

Remember that your silence ended long ago and you have been speaking up for yourself. This is just a temporary thing - just like you said.

Hey, Andy,

We are flu bug brothers! Don't get up and active too soon because the relapse is a doozy.

Here's a get well card for ya....Keith smirk

Oh, the DRAMA!

Flu is temporary. Loss of voice is temporary. Has nothing to do with your self worth.

But it indicates you might be a little sick. smile

Thanks guys, I didn't mean to be mr. drama.

I do have a weird thing that happened to me tonight. I got my voice back. The weird part is that it's deeper than it was before. My question is why now at 29? I've always had a high voice before but that is different now. The doc put me on mucinex and that must be part of it. I called my coworker that always tells me one day it will drop. He and I just laughed as I talked. I was cherry red the whole time. I think I'm gonna be red faced for a while now explaining this to others.

My voice changes when I get sick. Gets lower. Barry White low sometimes.

I'm the same way, partly. When I'm about to lose my voice to a cold, it goes contrabass the first day, then becomes a squeak the next. Real terrible thing to happen when one enjoys singing.

I recorded myself singing low bass back in 2000 before losing my voice to laryngitis. Interesting outcome.

Andy I hope your bout with a flu is swift. Nothing sucks like being sick.
