Given that sexual attacks, post-disclosure discrimination and abuse are, at their very foundation, pure cruelty, a question lingers:

What makes some people capable of cruelty?

I don't get cruelty either but see kindess every day. I work at a big hospital in NYC in a bad area that helps people who have no help. We care for many family and kids and I smile knowing I work with real Angels doing good things...

I like to see the good while notunderstanding the monsters either...

Be well. Keith

Robbie,
Cruelty denies that the victim is a person. For the abuser you are not a person, but a sexual object. People who reject survivors who disclose are slotting them into categories that dehumanize them in the minds of those who behave this way--you are "gay", damaged goods, a potential abuser, whatever. However sick and abusive we may deem these kinds of behavior, it happens all the time.

Morality or whatever you want to call begins with a recognition that you are dealing with persons, not objects.
