Here are some other thought provoking songs to share.

Song 1: "Storms" (Fleetwood Mac)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLH8IjTo22M

Song 2: "Father and his son"

NOTE-This can take on many meanings...for me it would be a desire to open up with my own father about what I experienced as a child. He does not know what happened. You can also take this in the religion context of father. For those who had troublesome fathers, this may not be a good song to listen to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXV_CTFPqCc

alternate link that is pretty touching/emotional
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjeYkrSVe8E&feature=related

Song 3: "Love Song"-Tesla

A great song that provides hope for those struggling to find love in relationships. Great instrumental intro before song begins.

Hey, not sure if anyone out there is really listening, but just wanted to post some other songs that are quite meaningful to me as I try to heal, and hopefully some of you will find it meaningful too.

Song 1: Tennessee Line (Daughtry)-Talks about how our troubles seem to follow us wherever we go. Lyrics below video screen if you click on twistie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFT_skC2Hq4&playnext=1&list=PL4D80A9117D1BA3DC

Song 2: My Immortal (Evanescence)-Some lyrics here really are powerful...including "Your presence still lingers here...and it won't leave me alone."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGKRXhmFQlw

Song 3: Better Days (Janet Jackson)-Another song I listen to if I'm ever feeling down.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3txBvAHS1o

Song 4: No More Drama (Mary J Blige)-Version with lyrics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gCzmEQLE0g

Live version (unbelievable live performance at the grammys)

jj78,

I also like My Immortal - it is an amazing vocal performance that drives home the haunting lyrics.

I think No More Drama is a true anthem song that could be sung by anyone trying to break out of a life style that no longer fits or the influence of others. In fact it would also fit as what I would call a strong boundary statement.

Thanks Daryl! It's amazing as I listen to so many songs nowadays you can really modify the original intent and apply it to those of us who are survivors.

Hey, thanks teebone...I enjoy up tempo songs as well. Here are a couple more songs that I've been listending to lately.

Song 1 (Unforgiven-Metallica)-This has probably been posted before. "Through constant pain disgraced, a young boy learns their rules"..."Deprived of all his thoughts, the young man struggles on and on"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7oeGl705Lo

Song 2 (Angel-Sarah McLachlan)-While this song was written for a lost love one, if you follow the lyrics, it certainly applies to those of us struggling as survivors, especially for those who have kept in hidden within).

"The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies"..."It's easier to believe in this madness, this glorious sadness, that brings me to my knees"

Another song for those of us still struggling with our past.

The World I Know-Collective Soul

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl0J0K-Tjlc

I love the chorus:
"So I walk up on high
And I stop to the edge
To see my world below
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
Cause it's the world I have known"

...Some are lean, some with grace and some without/tell the story that repeats/of a child who had been left alone at birth/left to fend and taught to fight.

Couldn't have survived without Suzanne Vega.

Here is one I discovered recently, though it is not new. The lyrics in particular describe well my feelings and point of view as I struggle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOPN24hyspU

'It Don't Matter'
Rehab

Sittin in traffic another day of feeling nothing
Trying to find something I guess it's back to huffin'
Paint and model glue oh how I die when I look
At you smilin' lovin' life and all I know is blue
Rainy days and cold stares broken love affairs
Everything's beautiful as long as I ain't there
I guess I wasn't meant to crack a smile who cares
I think I'll go to sleep for a while now

I'm barely livin' in my skin depression's my only friend
And I don't know where I am heading tryin' to forget where I've been
And I'm so sick of lying God please show me that silver lining
Cuz I've heard tale and I'm not well my heads full of hell and
This world's a jail but

And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear
And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear

And as the apin begins to displace had it to ear level
With this place you see it on my face a state of suspended grace
Gradually I erase and find comfort in the sickest womb
I might be present but not in the room
To whom it may consume melting ensembles bleeding chellos running through Bordellos drama
Like Othello hidin' out from Poncharello
Dead off in the Median
Fallin apart like usual handin' out flyers to my funeral

So they say that life's a play and that all the world's a stage
Then for another part I pray the show ends the same way everyday
And my heart carries the pain of a brain I can't explain
Am I insane
Am I insane

And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear
And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear

And everything good is gone
And everything good is gone
And everything good is gone
And everything bad is here
And everything bad is here
And everything bad is here
It doesn't really matter now does it

And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear
And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear

In 1969 (yeah, I'm old) the Youngbloods released "Get Together", but if you bought the 45 (single), the song was backed with "Darkness, Darkness"
Darkness, darkness be my pillow
Take my hand and let me sleep
In the coolness of your shadow in the silence of your deed
Darkness darkness be my blanket
Take my hand and let me sleep
Take away take away the pain that won't go away
Cover me in your night

Here is another one. "I Can Change" by LCD Soundsystem.

Tell me a line make it easy for me
Open your arms
Dance with me until I feel all right
It's good in the dark, good in the dark
But into the lover's light
Here comes another fight

So ring the alarm, ring the alarm
Bar me and hold me and cling to my arm
Here it comes, here it comes

And what you're asking me now, disastrous now
Hoping and hoping and hoping
The feeling goes away

Never change, never change, never change, never change
Never change, never change, never change
This is why I fell in love oooh

Never change, never change, never change, never change
Never change, never change, never change
That's just too up there in love with
(in loveeeee ...)

This is the time the very best time
So give me a line and take me hoooome
Take me oveeeer

But dashing the hopes dashing the hopes
And smashing the pride
The morning's got you on the ropes .. ooh

And love is a murderer , love is a murderer
But if she calls you tonight
Everything is all right
Yeah, we knoooooow
And love is a curse shoved in a hearse
Love is an open book to a verse of your bad poetry
And this is coming from me

But I can change, I can change, I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change, I can change
If it helps you fall in love
(fall in looove)

Turn on the light make it easy for me
Fill the divide fumble in the kitchen
til it's right
What an awful sight

But there's love in your eyes
Love in your eyes , love in your eyes
But maybe that's just what your lover finds
All niiiiiight!

But I can change, I can change, I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change, I can change
If it helps you fall in love

Weighty Ghost
Wintersleep

I got out of bed today, Swear to God I couldn't see my face
I got out of bed today staring at a ghost
Who forgot to float away, didn't have all that much to say
Wouldn't even tell me his own name
Where'd my body go

Where oh where'd my body go?
Africa or Mexico?
Where or where'd my body go?
Where'd my body go?

Have you seen my ghost?
Staring at the ground?
Have you seen my ghost?
Sick of those goddamn clouds

Are you some kind of medicine man?
Cut the demons out of my head
You can't kill something that's already dead
Just leave my soul alone
I don't need no surgery
Take those knives away from me
Just wanna die in my own body
A ghost just needs a home

Have you seen my ghost?
Staring at the ground?
Have you seen my ghost?
Sick of those goddamn clouds

Heather Nova had a cd out a few years ago. Bit of a one hit wonder maybe. I don't do youtube (my internet is very limited) or I would look her up. One of the songs would def. trigger but others offered some cool, hopeful melodies.

Here is one song that is ringing in my head these days:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0deFJmhN--A

Shadowland - Lostboy!AKA Jim Kerr

Out in the back woods, out from the main,
Once you've been there is no turning back again.
Wrapped up in silver, dressed up in gold,
Now is the time that your story can be told.
Come to me walk out of the shadow.
Sing to me, give me words I should know.

Some play the wild card, some play the game,
Once you've surrendered there's no turning back again.

Come to me walk out of the shadow.
Sing to me, give me words I should know.

Turn to me walk out of the shadow.
Sing to me, tell me words I should know.

Don't send it all away, such a special day.
On your special day.

Come to me walk out of the shadows,
Whisper to me, tell me words I should know.

Come to me walk out of the shadow.
Sing to me, tell me words I should know.
Come to me walk out of the shadow.
Whipser to me, tell me words I should know.

Sing to me tell me words I should know.
On your special day,
Such a special day.

Hi jj78,
for me music has healing power and without it life would be miserable. One more song came to my mind and I wish to share it with my fellows survivors:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trda5nHIZLo

Fix You - Coldplay
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
And I...

Tears stream down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
And I...

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Heather Nova songs:

Heal

This one is one of the best, but the quality is kinda poor.

Blue Black

2nd one is a little darker and can trigger but is positive over all.

A Way to Live

Name says it all.

It's all good so long as it makes me feel better. I've never really thought of any music I listen to as being particularly good for survivors, but after thinking about it some I realized that John and Julian Lennon's first albums both seem to speak to me for some reason.

I've noticed that besides songs with depressing lyrics, listening to bootlegs also seem to make me feel better when I'm upset. I have 3 in my collection so far. A 1975 John Lennon record called The John Lennon Telecasts, a 1989 or 1990 Paul McCartney record called And All The Rest, and another that I'll mention in a moment since it's on the turntable right now. I like how much more real they are than official studio releases. You can feel the raw energy and the artists emotions so much better when listening to incomplete or complete but unpolished versions of a song you like, and hearing them talk or argue about a song between takes is cool. Right now I'm listening to a 1969 Beatle bootleg called In A Play Anyway. Let It Be and Abbey Road were still works in progress. It beats the hell out of volume 3 of the Beatles Anthology. If any Beatle fans here ever come across this record don't hesitate to buy it.

Sometimes just some plain instrumental music with no lyrics can feel good. I have a few instrumental albums. I have one from 1970 or 71 called Switched On Bach. It's nothing special, just the music played on a melatron or a synthecisor. I have a Ravi Shankar record that I can't remember the name of right now. I have three instrumental albums of Beatles music. Volume 1 and 3 of the Hollyridge Strings albums and Chet Atkins Picks On The Beatles. So far I've enjoyed all of them.

I'm listening to the Wilburys right now. I just felt like commenting on how good the last track on side one feels. Not Alone Anymore. I believe it's the last song Roy Orbison wrote before he died. I don't really know what to say beyond the fact that it just feels good. Now that I think about it, the end of side 2 feels almost as good. End of the Line. I don't know which of them wrote it but it's a good end for the album.

I like the song from MGMT " kids" .
The video could use a switch. Scared the poor little guy.
Often when i am driving in my car ...i will change the lyrics
to what fits me. Shouting out famliy names, what i would like
to do to them! What i like ,, what i dont! It helps , i find
it takes the edge off!
Last night a friend and i went to a bar and to sing karoake.
I sang " Wonderful" by Everclear. It is joyous tune for little
boys.
Yeah, it was nice to sing this - put a smile both inside and out:)

A friend of mine, John Cowan, a survivor, was given the lyrics to this song in about 20 minutes. It is gut wrenching and heart wrenching and healing and is his story. It is called "Drown" and he courageously put it on his "New Tattoo" CD and available as a download on Amazon:

“Drown” lyrics by John Cowan, music by Darrell Scott

Under the big top the lights go dim
The clowns all hide and the ringmaster grins
His belt was noosed around my wrist
His smile turned in to an angry twist.

Too young to know better just what was wrong.
My insides turned where they didn’t belong
And all I could do was hold back the tears
And wait for his thirst to go back to his beer.

And so another and another and another was made
To slug through this life so alone and afraid.

So I lied and I stole and I ate all I could
Just to have some control---as if I would.
And there I was awful and fat
He said if I told I’d die for that.

Tell me when do the lights leave the gleam in the eyes
Of children molested by men twice their size
Is it the moment of entry, the rush of surprise
Or knowing their lives will only be lies.

I knew there’d be solace as there always will be
For the pit of a soul that’s forever hungry.
A needle a bottle a warm piece of flesh
A return to the thing that always felt best.

And if God is a spirit tell me where does he go
Is he busy with devils confessing their woes?

I guess it’s up to us to find one another
And try and touch souls and try to recover
The lives we’re making all over again
In hope that some child will never again
Drown….drown….drown

Hey Sgt Pepper and Bumblebee-I really enjoyed your posts. Music and lyrics can be very touching.

I actually recently came across a song that is extremely moving. It's about dealing with our difficulties and learning that some things are out of our control.

"What I cannot change" by LeAnn Rimes

And here is a great live vocal of this song:

Don't Let It Bring You Down -- Paul McCartney & Wings

Though some things in life are hard to bear
Don't let it bring you down

Should the sand of time run out on you
Don't let it bring you down

Don't go down - don't go underground
Things seem strange, but they change
How they change

Up and down your carousel will go
Don't let it bring you down

Don't go down - don't get out of town
Get to know how it goes, how it goes

When the price you have to pay is high
Don't let it bring you down.

Now that I think about it, anything that you like playing loud can be good for you. Yesterday I bought a 3 disc set called The Jimi Hendrix Experience BBC Sessions. It came from 2nd and Charles, the best big chain store that you can get new and used materials from. It cost $30. It has a Beatles Anthology feel to it.

As the weight of the holiday season lifts I find myself thinking of "Weight of the World". It's the first song on Ringo Starr's 1993 album Time Takes Time. It's a good start for the album.

Sorry guys it's been so long since I've been on. I've listened to all the recent posts and really find them inspiring and deep.

Here's a song I've always found to resonate for many victims including CSA survivors. Because of what happened to us, we sometimes veer off in the wrong direction and need to right the ship.

"Fastcar" by Tracy Chapman

here are some of the lyrics *WARNING* (it may trigger some) i listen to this almost everyday n i can't believe how painfully true this is (least for me)

KORN
"Narcissistic Cannibal"
(feat. Skrillex & Kill The Noise)

Don't wanna be sly and defile you
Desecrate my mind and rely on you
I just wanna break this crown
But it's hard when I'm so run down

And you're so cynical, Narcissistic Cannibal!
Got to bring myself back from the dead!

Sometimes, I hate, the life, I made
Everything's wrong every time
Pushing on I can't escape
Everything that comes my way
Is haunting me taking its sweet time

Holding on I'm lost in a haze
Fighting life to the end of my days

Don't wanna be rude but I have to
Nothing's good about the hell you put me through
I just need to look around
See that life that has come unbound

And you're so cynical, Narcissistic Cannibal
Got to bring myself back from the dead

Sometimes, I hate, the life I made
Everything's wrong every time
Pushing on I can't escape
Everything that comes my way
Is haunting me taking its sweet time

Sometimes, I hate, the life I made
Everything's wrong every time
Pushing on I can't escape
Everything that comes my way
Is haunting me taking its sweet time

Holding on I'm lost in a haze
Fighting life to the end of my days

Holding on I'm lost in a haze
Fighting life to the end of my days

"Kill Mercy Within"

Disgraced
Expendable, we are not really real
A mirage of solitude is what they try to heal and
I will not be made to feel we are sealed in a fake charade

Spewing vile atrocities
Bringing existence to its knees
I will manifest my sins and
I will Kill Mercy Within
Immersed in this hypnotic spell
Influenced by the hate that swells
I'm not terrified anymore
There's nothing left but open sores

Disengaged
Relinquish the reality, I've known
I'm feeling like I'm alienated from my own and
I will not be made to feel we are sealed in a fake charade

Spewing vile atrocities
Bringing existence to its knees
I will manifest my sins and
I will Kill Mercy Within
Immersed in this hypnotic spell
Influenced by the hate that swells
I'm not terrified anymore
There's nothing left but open sores

Spewing vile atrocities
Bringing existence to its knees
I will manifest my sins and
I will Kill Mercy Within
Immersed in this hypnotic spell
Influenced by the hate that swells
I'm not terrified anymore
There's nothing left but open sores

Nothing left but open sores

"My Wall"

And along came something sacred
I never knew what I found
The demons dance around, elated
They're hurting me

I put my wall up each day
You tear it down
I hide in my space
The space you found
And one of these days
I'll come unbound
The feelings I hate
Will finally drown

Falling awake in a nightmare
Images of horror abound
Thought I stumbled upon salvation
Hell I found

I put my wall up each day
You tear it down
I hide in my space
The space you found
And one of these days
I'll come unbound
The feelings I hate
Will finally drown

Well, I'll never be the same
It's the greatest lie ever told
No, I'll never be the same
I sold my soul

I put my wall up each day
You tear it down
I hide in my space
The space you found
And one of these days
I'll come unbound
The feelings I hate
Will finally drown

"Bleeding Out"

I'm staring at a face
I don't recognize
Rotten and replaced
Lifeless and benign
You can never say
That I didn't try
I can not erase
What's in my mind

I'm the one to give to you
I'm the one to break you thru
Anything you ever do will
Eat you up and impale you

I'm Bleeding Out
Been crucified by trusting you
Hate turns to shame
By praising you, adoring fool
I'm the one that set you free
Bound to burn for eternity 'cause
I'm Bleeding Out
You're never there when I need you

My thoughts they interlace
Been spun out for sometime
I wander in this maze
An act that is sublime
You can never say
That I didn't try
I cannot erase
What's in my mind

I'm the one to give to you
I'm the one to break you thru
Anything you ever do will
Eat you up and impale you

I'm Bleeding Out
Been crucified by trusting you
Hate turns to shame
By praising you, adoring fool
I'm the one that set you free
Bound to burn for eternity 'cause
I'm Bleeding Out
You're never there when I need you

I'm Bleeding Out
Been crucified by trusting you
Hate turns to shame
By praising you, adoring fool
I'm the one that set you free
Bound to burn for eternity 'cause
I'm Bleeding Out
You're never there when I need you

"Illuminati"

I can't believe what's happening
Where is your self control
Why can't you just be honest
The corruption takes its toll

You rape our hope
Too proud to cope
You built this house of shame
You smile, you gloat
This disease you promote
An infection is what we are now

I can't believe this happened
The fear starts to grab hold
Then anger starts to take over
I will not be controlled

You rape our hope
Too proud to cope
You built this house of shame
You smile, you gloat
This disease you promote
An infection is what we are now

They're taking over now
Eating up our souls somehow
Taking over now
Parasites, they run around
The culprits won't be found
They lie behind this mask of wealth
They're taking over now
Illuminati they hide

You rape our hope
Too proud to cope
You built this house of shame
You smile, you gloat
This disease you promote
An infection is what we are now

You rape our hope
Too proud to cope
You built this house of shame
You smile, you gloat
This disease you promote
An infection is what we are now

I've been listening to Ocean's Kingdom just about every day this week. It's the first of Paul McCartney's instrumental albums I've heard. I plan on finding the other two now.

"Hear Me Now"

[JDOG]
As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I wear my crown of thorns and pull the knife out my chest.
I keep searching for something that I never seem to find.
But maybe I won’t, because I left it all behind.
Now I’m stuck with this, and that’ll never change
Always a part of me, until the very last day.

Where to go from here? What road to travel on?
I spent my whole life choosing, and I always chose wrong.
Will I try to have the will to be alive?
Will I try because I’ve never seen the light?
Blow it to the ground and it’s now you see,
You spent your whole life taking the best of me
[DANNY]
Where’d you go? Where’s your home?
How’d you end up all alone?
Can you hear me now?
There’s no light, there’s no sound.
Hard to breathe, when you’re underground.
Can you hear me now? Hear me now
[JOHNNY 3 TEARS]
How long can I keep pretending to be?
That all the stars in the sky could mean something to me.
Heaven will open up if I live on my knees.
A man of many words, but a man of few deeds.
Walking these streets, so absent of hope.

A pillow of concrete, a man with no home.
Lend him a hand, then we’re walking the way.
Leave the virtue of pity, but we live with the shame.
So scared to dream in a world with no sunlight.
When you wake up, you know it’s darker than last night.
Quickly we forget, sacrifice gone by.
Born to walk away, been walking my whole life.
[DANNY]
Where’d you go? Where’s your home?
How’d you end up all alone?
Can you hear me now?
There’s no light, there’s no sound.
Hard to breathe, when you’re underground.
Can you hear me now? Hear me now
[DANNY]
Look into my eyes and I see
What do I see? Nothing at all
Take another look around me
What do I see? Nothing at all
[DANNY]
Where’d you go? Where’s your home?
How’d you end up all alone?
Can you hear me now?
There’s no light, there’s no sound.
Hard to breathe, when you’re underground.
Can you hear me now? Hear me now
[DANNY]
Can you hear me? Hear me now

Give the songs a chance they might not be what you are expecting from me they all of meaning in them and things we all can relate to trust me . Let me no what you think and how they might effect your life . This is a great thread by the way

This is a very powerful song to listen to when you feel like giving up hold on for one more day
Don't give up

This song is about taking this life and asking to be made whole again
very deep
Take this life

This song song is about your family tree that you do not have to except what was handed to you by your families guidance or should i say lack of guiding leading and parenting great song you do not have to live the life that was handed down to you Family Tree

This song is about rising from the ashes it is possible to overcome
i will rise

Broken by Lifehouse
I do not know if this was posted but this song will touch all of us in a special way it will bring you to tears it is very deep and it describes all of us in a special way
Broken

This song is about all the times we feel apart feel lonely and even apart from God
Times

This song is more of a rap but it talks about our struggle and the real video shows sexual abuse specifically and the lyrics mention it also this could be triggering but it is a really strong song and speaks to our struggle Fly away

This song came from a rapper it was the first person to mention being molested in his lyrics his name is Bizzy Bone and he was kidnapped molested and than was rescued from the show Americas most wanted and than bounced from foster home to foster home . I could relate to him so much i lived the same life he did selling drugs and living that life .

the lyrics go " but i keep my skeletons understand me what if i said i was molested would you look at me pale but i keep on baleen and i hope i don't go to hell stressed out o well"
Nobody can Stop me

Demons surround me all the time
This is a fast paced song but i included the vid with lyrics give it a chance it is hard to understand but when you get the lyrics it is an awesome song when he says
Get away for safety, in a coma like state, invade me/ Everyone say: "Hey, hey, he's crazy"/ Premonitions, kick pushin' daisies/ Wait, they chase to slay me/ Paranoid, mortal to the paranormal, jumpin' out portals/ Kinetical energy formal
Man it is a really schizophrenic song that i can relate to
Demons surround me

don't see this one listed yet - it is religious in nature, but the words touch that empty spot in me that so needs compassion:

"Robot Boy" by LP

You say you're not gonna fight
'Cause no one would fight for you
And you think there's not enough love
And no one to give it to
And you're sure you've hurt for so long
You've got nothing left to lose
So you say you're not gonna fight
'Cause no one would fight for you

You say the weight of the world
Has kept you from letting go
And you think compassion's a flaw
And you'll never let it show
And you're sure you hurt in a way
That no one will ever know
But someday the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go

Hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go
So hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go
So hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go
Just hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go

"Iridescent" - LP again

You were standing in the wake of devastation
And you were waiting on the edge of the unknown
And with the cataclysm raining down
Insides crying "Save me now"
You were there, impossibly alone

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

And in a burst of light that blinded every angel
As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars
You felt the gravity of tempered grace
Falling into empty space
No one there to catch you in their arms

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

Let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

Hey Guys-Thanks all for posting your songs. I really enjoyed some of them and agree with what NLT stated about the impact music has on our healing process.

This song was very special to me when I first heard it when I was 11 or so in 1984. This song spoke to me. In my mind I pictured Morrissey speaking to me and being my "protector." During many dark nights throughout my life, this song got me through. Listening to it still, it brings a lump to my throat.

Here's the original version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcFHPl0NbwM

Here's a heart-wrenching beautiful cover by Sinead O'Connor:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKVuSjSGUKk

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Please don't cry
For the ghost and the storm outside
Will not invade this sacred shrine
Nor infiltrate your mind
My life down I shall lie
If the bogey-man should try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
To tease, torment, and tantalise
Wavering shadows loom
A piano plays in an empty room
There'll be blood on the cleaver tonight
And when darknesss lifts and the room is bright
I'll still be by your side
For you are all that matters
And I'll love you to till the day I die
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Ceiling shadows shimmy by
And when the wardrobe towers like a beast of prey
There's sadness in your beautiful eyes
Oh, your untouched, unsoiled, wonderous eyes
My life down I shall lie
Should restless spirits try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
I once had a child, and it saved my life
And I never even asked his name
I just looked into his wondrous eyes
And said : "never never never again"
And all too soon I did return
Just like a moth to a flame
So rattle my bones all over the stones
I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns
Oh, see how words as old as sin
Fit me like a glove
I'm here and here I'll stay
Together we lie, together we pray
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Mine
Climb up on my knee, sonny boy
Although you're only three, sonny boy
You're - you're mine
And your mother she just never knew
Oh, your mother ...
As long ... as long ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
As long ... as long ... as long as ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her

Hey fellas...been a while since I posted here. Just reposting a song that has special meaning to me on this Saturday night. At a reflection point with a friendship and realized it can't be what I would like it to be.

Here's another song that I thought you guys would enjoy. I've had one of the hardest week's of my lives, and this song has very relevant lyrics. This song came from her "Velvet Rope" albums which is by far her best album, and one of the great pop albums. It includes many serious songs about serious issues, and was written as she was going through bouts with depression and anxiety in her early 30s reflecting on her past.

"It catches up to us fast...we have to deal with the past...I know it's painful"

"Special" by Janet Jackson

Here are a couple of really powerful songs for those who may be Christian on here.

1. "Jesus take the wheel"-Carrie Underwood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qujwcCUH88o
NOTE-Written from a female perspective, but the core message really applies to us male survivors as well.

2. "How Great thou Art"-Easily the best live Country live vocal, and one of the best awards show performances I've seen.

1. Try-Pink

Two other great live performances at awards shows.

2. "What About"-Janet Jackson at the Fashion Awards (this song is about abuse)

I'm not a survivor- but this song makes my heart ache for my survivor because I can feel his pain at times.

The YouTube video won't load on a phone- so if you want to check it out you have to go on the computer.

Here's a song with a lot of meaning for survivors who may struggle with emotion or love. It's a very poetic song that may help as the weather turns cold and winter approaches.

Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under The Bridge"

Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of Angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and
She kisses me windy and
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way (yeah yeah yeah)

It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way (yeah yeah yeah)
Ooh no (no no yeah yeah)
Love me I say yeah yeah

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge "
I could not get enough
Under the bridge "
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge "
I gave my life away (yeah yeah yeah)
Ooh no (no no yeah yeah)
Here I stay yeah yeah

Here I stay...

When I am coming out of a low, I generally find myself listening to Henry Rollins. Something about his music, poetry, etc that resonates with me and makes me stronger. In a way, it helps me to focus my anger into something more positive to keep me going.

Anyway, was listening to this today and though I would share.

Rollins Band - "Alien Blueprint"

You reached out
You got burned
Made tough by the lessons you learned
You never thought they could be so mean
Be so hard and cause you so much pain
Like a fool
You tired again
You really wanted to be their friend
But looking back you see they just wasted your time
Self loathing
The anger inside
You covered it up with pride
You always found a way to blame it on yourself

So mad
So mean
The pain remained unseen
All that time spent up wanting to explode
What they did
The things they said
You wished that you were dead
Anything not to deal with them
They made you hate
You couldn't wait
To go out and do something great
Turn around and throw it right back in their face

Looking back you get yourself together
Looking back you see the hatred inside
Now you see that you get to change your mind about yourself
And get to go on, so go on
Looking back you see you just wasted your time
Looking back you can see all you've got is yourself
You can tell by the look in their eyes

Now you see
How you are
The wisdom mixed in with all the scars
Watching all the fools
They never knew
They never do
It was always up to you
You gotta get it for yourself
You never were
One of them
They could have never been our friends
The best revenge is to always survive yourself
