This article today in the Chicago Tribune. Good common sense info and encouraging (sort of) news about the problem of stranger abduction.

But journalists and law enforcement officials debunked the inflated statistics and revealed that only a fraction of missing children are likely stranger abductions.

Ask the parents in poor neighborhoods in Houston about the accuracy of the statistics. All 45 of the known victims of Dean Coryll were listed as runaway boys. They only bothered to locate and dig up 27 and declined to pursue obvious signs that he had been doing it for a lot longer than the 2-3 year period they documented.

This article actually made me cry. One of the convicted offenders got only a year. How many times was he successful and didn't get caught. The impotence and incompetence of law enforcement and the justice system is often astounding.
