If someone expresses a problem with me on chat or in the forum, I ask them once what is wrong, and apologize or make amends as best I can. Failing that, I politely inform them that I am placing them on ignore, and that I hope they heal well and find what they need. I then ignore them, and engage them no further. The ignore function is very welcome. Thankfully I rarely have the need to use it. ( maybe 2 or 3 times )

Edit: Quick Question: DO those whom one ignores know they are being ignored, aside from being told by the person doing it? i.e. does the system alert them automatically>?

hmmmmmmmm..... Not sure I know the answer to that question... Maybe others here have used it and know. You could try it with one of your friends and ask him what happens. Just toggle the ignore on and off on the boards and in chat with them as an experiment to see what happens.

Yes - the system does send a message (I think it says "you are now being ignored by user xxxx")

I can accept that you use the ignore function. I hope that you do the best you can and concider we are all at different places in our journey. For some of us are more confused than others hopefully the fog will lift sonner rather than later.

It looks to me like tj answered the question. Is there something else you would like to know?
