I had a dream the night before last about me having sex with a fried. he and I were having sex when we got caught by someone who I don't even know, but then I woke up at the moment when she walked in and caught us.

When I saw this friend last night for the first time since the dream, I felt very awkward. Of course I didn't tell him. In fact, he doesn't even know that I struggle with homosexual tendencies

I do admit, I am attracted to him, and I thought about telling him about my problem in the entent to build a support network which I do not have, but now I am having second thoughts as to whether or not it would be a good idea to tell him. (Of course I am not going to tell him about the dream, however).

why would I have dreams like this? What do they mean? Last year I these types of dreams literally almost every night for about a month, and that was when I was trying to stop masturbating. Again this time I am trying to stop and the dreams are starting back up again? Why?

Hi TW,

I don't think having dreams like this mean you want to act them out, the same as having a dream about killing someone doesn't mean you want to kill someone, or having a dream about falling out of a building doesn't mean you want to fall out of a building. I think sometimes our fears are played out in our dreams, aka nightmares, and is just our brains way of relieving the stress of the day. Getting "caught" doing something we think others might perceive as wrong is probably a pretty common dream theme, I know a lot of mine follow that pattern. Again, it's our fears of doing something and then being caught and/or punished for it.

I think you made the right decision to not share that dream with your friend, too, since I'm sure it would probably make him uncomfortable and would be awkward. We have to gauge what we disclose and sometimes that can be a difficult line to walk. Take care.

TW,

I agree with what Eddie said

I also know that I've noticed that when I back off on MB'ing that my sexualy oriented dreams tend to go up

Thank you all for sharing.
I had never been aware of a correlation between stopping MB'ing and dreams - frankly because Ive never tried to stop MB'ing. Until now.
I've been sober from MB'ing for 9 days now.
And, wow, last night, I had this very explicit dream about me having sex ... a dream like I never have.

Seeing your posting helps me simply dismiss the dream for what it is ... a dream ... and I'm going to continue with my sobriety and regular morning 12-step routine.

When I stopped MB'ing and acting out sexually, a lot of dreams came out. For me, part of this process was detoxing from obsessive, compulsive, abuse-based sexual gratification and moving towards a more natural, even original sexuality that was underneath it all. It kind of naturally emerged.

I've been sober a long time now, and rarely have dreams like that. I have a regular healthy, fulfilling sex life with someone I am committed to and love deeply.
