I read this report report on how people react to a child's disclosure of sexual abuse five days ago and posted about it elsewhere to see if I would get any reaction.

Quote:
"I'm appalled that 66% of Australians would do nothing if a child told them they were being sexually abused. The report continues chillingly "Victims are most commonly four or younger." How do you hear a child asking for help and ignore it?

I guess this is why it's estimated that 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 3 girls have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences before age 16. Most adults do nothing to stop it."

No response. But it this because people are thinking about it? Is it because some people feel shame? Or is it because no one cares.

I've been thinking about what silence means in this kind of context.

Then I ran into a colleague who told me that they saw my post and was talking to their daughter about it.

Realization: It's worthwhile if only one person sees it and has a conversation.

Hi, my brother.

I guess that it is not supprising 66% would take no action.

I wonder what the American percentage would be?

It's like we all suffer in silence. Out of sight out of mind mentality.

Heal well, my Sequoia brother, Brian, heal well.

This is sadly true. As for the American side, it includes law enforcement. A county sheriff found us as my mother fled the farm with us and other than hanging out to make sure we got on the bus, he wanted nothing to do with us.
