The snake it coiled round my legs
I had no name for him
He slithered upward evermore
ensnaring all my limbs

He tightly wound around my neck
and I named him despair
He made his way down my throat
Expelling all my air

I gasped and gasped till all was left
was just a single breath
I breathed it out
and then inhaled the timely hand of death

If I, the conduit
for which this all transpired
had spoken just a single word
the snake would have expired

but not a word no, not a sound
all abounds is silence
I simply choose to be somewhere else
I lived behind my eyelids

It is so easy for us to blame ourselves -- because we are the only ones who we could ever depend upon.

I am slowly -- agonizingly slowly ---- coming to understand that I was not responsible -- I was only a young boy --- I was supposed to be protected.

Hi Mistahnuff,

You've expressed a lot of what so many survivors feel about the way the abuse came upon us, slowly, deceptively, and invaded us before we know what happened. And then we wondered how it could have happened. Thanks for sharing this with us, great work.

That really resonated with me. Oh, how I know how it is to live in silence, behind my eyelids...

thanks for the comments guys. I write a lot, as an aspiring song writer, it's usually much less dark than this. But when i saw the site had a poetry section this just kind of came out. Its interesting seeing what people pull out of my words. thanks a lot guys.
