The depth and breadth of the human heart is unimaginable. to defile the growth of this, the most important organ, causes such great anguish. The damaged placed upon the heart is grievous when one so young is brought up with a corrupt and skewed understanding of the world around them. Naughtiness, Lust, Pain, Fear, Hatred, Worry, and Regret build upon a blundering soul who cannot see his way through a land made alien to him by his perpetrators.

The child sees the confusion. Empty holes where the gears once were and open spaces replace teeth on the gears that are left in the mind of the broken. Hands cannot touch and skill cannot repair a mind half erased.

Heartstrings tie us each to another. Ties are made and grown and broken. Unguided hands leave gnarled rope with no choice but to cut. Hearts without skill leave loose knots to fall apart at the slightest tug. ungrounded hearts drift off in the breeze to be damaged again.

*I don't know if this is really a poem but it is how I feel.

What struck me about your poem was the part about how one so young is damaged by the effects of abuse. It's hard to comprehend at times that this occurred to us as children. We look at other children around us and try to fathom how someone could harm them in such a way. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you for the complements!

Its funny how one phrase can stand out and explain the whole thing like that. And whats funnier is I didn't even pay much attention to that phrase when I wrote it. You are both right though it is really what it is like.

____Thanks Again!

Markus,

For me your words about the damage to the heart of one so young is true for me.

At age 42, I had a heart attack. The memories started soon after that. It was my bodies - heart - way of saying I can't handle it anymore.

Your poem speaks volumes to me too.

It is good the "land" here is very green and alive with good men.

A
