Pretty powerful. But being it's a film I guess that individually we cannot use it.

A DVD would make it a great tool, individually or in a group.

We welcome all to join us on Tuesday, June 15th for the Canadian premiere of the new “hot doc” entitled Boys and Men Healing. This powerful film, a Big Voice Pictures Production, will be shown at the Library and Archives Canada building at 395 Wellington Street (Ottawa) at 7:30 p.m.

As part of the event, we will have a very special guest speaker – Dr. David Lisak of the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Lisak is one of the world‘s most notable researchers in this field, and is also featured in Boys and Men Healing.

This film, a fundraiser for The Men’s Project, highlights the pressing mental health needs for the one in six males who are sexually abused by age 18.

The Men’s Project offers Men & Healing - a unique treatment program for male survivors that has developed an international reputation. This program is now being modelled in the United States [1in6.org], and is also seen in Europe as a “fabulous” model of service [thesurvivorstrust.org]. Currently, we are running seven programs following a phased trauma treatment model.

This film appeals to both the head and heart as it not only portrays the pain associated with abuse, but the courage and resiliency of those men who have emerged from the shadow of their trauma. This testimony of the human spirit is truly a “must see” for men and their loved ones.

The Men’s Project (TMP) is a registered non-profit charitable organization that provides counselling and educational services for men and their families. Our clinical services include individual and couple counselling, as well as group therapy services that include anger management, emotional intelligence, and fathering.

TMP has won awards and acclamations for its services, from the provincial Attorney General’s office to the Aboriginal Healing Foundation.

Ticket prices are $10. Your financial support will allow TMP to serve more men. We welcome additional contributions to ensure that all of our clients can attend this event free of charge.

Hey MS Friends:

This film (Boys and Men Healing) is brilliant! We had the showing here in Ottawa this week, and along with a very special guest appearance by Dr David Lisak, we created a very memorable evening. Over 200 showed up for the combo event (a great number for a topic nobody wants to talk about!), along with a compelling photo montage installation created by Roy Grogan (was shown at the MS conference in NYc).

it was an evening of courage and hope and resiliency. The audinece was a mix of men and women, gay and straight, survivors and service providers, clients of TMP and community members. A big thanks to Big Voice Pictures (www.bigvoicepicutres.com) in making this happen.
