A volcano in Iceland erupted again yesterday, and now airports all over the UK and parts of western Europe have had to close because of clouds of volcanic ash, which can foul jet engines. Are you doing OK Marcus??? Just wondered about you. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36543312/ns/world_news-europe/Mark

I am preparing for a business trip to Germany. Now all the flights to Europe are cancelled, and I am waiting for what the situation will be on Monday.
It's weird. But I do not want to fly worrying about the possibility of jet engine break down... You know.

Allen,
Maybe it's the earth's way of addressing global warming. As the surface temperature increases it only logical that this would increase the earth's core temperature. Which would increase lava movement which would trigger more volcanic activity. Which in turn puts move volcanic ash in the air to deflect light ray from the sun which would reduce global temperatures. Seems to me that the to be billions of years old that there must be some way it can control internal issues.
Another thought this increase volcanic ash being present in the air would reduce air traffic. Which in turn would reduce fossil fuel usage and reduce carbon admissions into the air. Which means less global warming.
Mike

Yes, your country has many natural wonders, like acting volcanoes. I will not go to Europe, so OK, it is better to stay safe home.

Update, going to Germany.
Volcano is not a drag anymore. Listen to me. It is a secret services' lie organized to prevent gathering of tens of presidents at Lech Cachinsky funeral.
LOL, at least they say so.
Hello, Europe (my first time to step out of the iron curtain).

This volcano is nothing compared to what havoc the supervolcano at yellow stone national park could cause if it were to blow up tomorrow.

You're not lying, and from what I've heard, the Yellowstone volcano is about due. Last year there were thousands of small earthquakes around Yellowstone Park too, and there was some worry that an eruption was imminent, but the seismic activity seems to have subsided in recent months. The prevailing jet stream would carry ash from the Yellowstone volcano down across Denver, then eastward across Kansas City and St. Louis, then back northeast affecting much of the midwestern and the northeastern US. O'Hare Airport would likely have to be shutdown, Midway too, and everything east of there to NYC and Boston also, if the ash cloud was pretty thick. In previous eruptions, the Yellowstone volcano has experienced explosive eruptions too, like Krakatoa, which would involve shock wave damage over great distances too.
I'm hoping that I'll be long gone when Yellowstone blows its top again. Talk about nuclear Winter, a major Yellowstone eruption could be just as bad or worse. Imagine the sun blotted-out for months by thick clouds of ash, dropping average temperatures by 20 or 30 degrees, all across the agricultural midwestern US, with large percentages of the western portion covered with a foot of volcanic ash? There goes our grain exports!!! Imagine a global famine???
Let's hope that Yellowstone stays calm for a while instead!!!

Yeah, I'm not so sure about his association of the "health" bill and Europe being punished for it. Strange.

haha wow, my country is disturbing so many ppls lives! its awesome Yeah, maybe my country should've taken a check instead Thankfully I have nowhere to go but there's one friend whose connection back to his home country might be disrupted, and another from Canada who (depending on the ash direction) might be delayed and not get here in three weeks. I'm sure any decent airline will let him re-book it though.
