Plus possible punitive damages, for covering-up a history of CSA and allowing an assistant scoutmaster to continue serving in Oregon in the 1980s. I thought that this story might interest some of us.

My huge injury was in the boy scouts in the Washington, D.C. area. I have posted extensively about the damage done to me.

http://www.malesurvivor.org/board/ubbthr...9028#Post219028

The statute of limitations for sexual abuse in that area is ridiculously low. I think It's 6 months. I went to Washington to testify about what was done to me in June 2006. I reported to a committee of the City Council of Washington D.C. Ex-mayor Marion Berry was on the committee. They seemed very interested but as far as I know nothing was ever done. The Statute of Limitations is still ridiculously low there. Can you imagine that? 6 months? Most survivors don't recall their abuse for about 30 years.

The organization SNAP paid for my trip. SNAP is an organization concerned mostly with Roman Catholic abuse. That was before I knew about MS (Male Survivor). My testimony was very difficult to deliver because my emotions were so toxic. However, it ended up being a healing experience. I also met other survivors, most of which were survivors of Roman Catholic abuse as children in the Washington area. My contact there was Barbara Blaine.

SNAP is different from MS in that it's function is more of reporting and legal action organization against abuse by those in the RC heirarchy. They have some powerful lawyers, authors and former priests among their supporters.

This boost for me by SNAP helped me to realize that there are organazitions out there who care and can help.

SNAP also maintains a branch for those abused by baptist ministers and officials.

I am a member of a Southern Baptist church. I was not abused in the baptist church. Those churches are trying to sweep the whole abuse thing under ther rug. I heard a series of sermans by the brilliant man who is in charge of the Southern Baptist committee on social ethics. His name is Richard Land. His e-mail address is:

rdland@erlc.com

He is very outspoken about abortion but he doesn't seem to mention anything about CSA (child sexual abuse). I think the idea is that they are hoping that if they ignore it then it won't exist. (at least that's my impression of it). You know, the old ostrich technique.

Here is a link to a news report about abuse in the Southern Baptist Church:

My anger with what Liri went through prompts me to make this post. Liri's father held positions of leadership in his baptist church. He told me that information.

I went to SNAP, where I found this story, hot off of the presses:

My parents held positions of leadership in the Christian Science Church too, and my mother still does.
