My brother is sitting alone over there.
He’s looking beaten down, sad and in despair.
I sit down next to him and ask “what’s troubling you?”
He raises his head with sorrowful tears in his eyes and says that he’s feeling useless, worthless and blue.
I asked him why he felt this way and this is what he said.
It’s never fully left me. For the first 17 years of my life my mother beat that into my head.
I reminded my brother of how special of a grandpa and dad he’s been.
To raise two loving grandsons and two sons into loving men.
I stood my brother up and held him in my arms, hugging him tight.
He buried his face into my shoulder and cried with all his might.
Through the tears “thank you” was all that he could say.
I held him tight, patted his back and said “you’re my dear brother. I’ll love your pain away.”

Todd,

Your poem is truly beautiful. And very moving. A beautiful gift to your brother, second only to your steadfast and deeply-felt love for him. And very moving for us here at MS. Thank you for sharing and raising our spirits with your unashamed affection for a brother. To paraphrase a quote, "A beautiful thing is always a joy."

And I love your title. Well put, buddy.

Bobcat

My fraternal brothers,

I am crying right now.

For my brother had wiped away my shame.

In compassion, understanding & love. To ease my pain.

Now, maybe you can see why I use the term "fraternal Brother(s)."

For this is what you all mean for this old boy.

Heal well my fraternal brothers, heal well.

Little Pete & big Pete, onward to Sequoia.
