Were you in Essex County, NJ as a child in 1960's

Between 1960-1973. The county had a children's shelter on the grounds of the SOHO Geriatric Center. It opened sometime in the 50's and closed in 1981. It had more than one name over time, EC Emergency Children's Shelter, EC Center for Abused and Abandoned Children are two I know of. I am looking to connect with others who were there, hopefully when I was, from say 63-67. Even if it was before or after I'd like to talk as I've not been able to talk about it with anyone who was there, and exchange remembrences. I endured most of the abuse I talk about while I was there.

The place is in Belleville. The Hospital is now the Garden State Cancer Center or Treatment Center. Anyone? Did you work there or know someone who did?

The buildings out back of the Hospital itself where the Shelter officially was have been demolished and condo's have been built but two of the large buildings along Carpenter Street are still there. This hospital was used in "A beautiful Mind" as the mental hospital. That front entrance is the place that was the first memory that my life had always started from until I began to remember what took place inside and on the grounds of that place.
Is anyone here who know's this place yet?

This hospital was used in "A beautiful Mind" as the mental hospital. I saw that movie. What a desolate looking place. Allen

Hi Allen, I've made a photo I found of the front of the hospital into my avatar. Those trees weren't there when I was.

Allen, That hospital was built as a Tuberculosis Isolation Hospital. When I was in the Shelter which was out back in the old Nurses quarters and separate from the hospital by a good distance it was the County Geriatric Hospital and on the upper floors there was a ward for mentally challenged children. 4th floor I think.
Thanks, KT
PS I never saw the movie A Beautiful Mind, I got that reference to it being used on a website about old buildings
