Everyone here has been abused. I have been abused by both parents, a coach, and several strangers in my life. I have been abused mentally, physically, and sexually. And this does not make me unique. This does not make me rare. This does not make me some exotic creature in a cage to research and try to keep from going to extinction. This makes me one of many. There are more of us who have been hurt in some way then there are who have not. It is sick to me, and makes me angry and sad.

I know Leosha. I feel the same way. That is why society does not really want to deal with abuse. There is safety in doing nothing because the perps (among them) are protected.

Just remember that it is we, who by example, offer a road to those yet to find us. We will never stamp out racism, sexual orientation bashing, murder, rape, denigration at the hands of others (our perps) religious fanatacism or any other of the afflictions in the human race but we can lead by example and move towards our own sense of self worth. To know you are healing , and Justin, and Al, and Danny, and Dave, and Ivanhoe and Scott and Victor and Michael Joseph and Dan-in-Ne and I are moving towards peace is enough for me at this time. It also means that those closest to us benefit from that healing. I know that for a fact because I am living it at home and here at MS.

It makes me sick too. And sad.

We are not rare, but we are strong. And so are you, my man.

I love ya, Leo.

Sometimes, when we confront real reluctance to talk about the horrors we have all gone through, it is a matter of psychic numbing. Some people, and probably at times it has happened to us too, just get to a point where they numb all their feelings, unconciously, because if they allowed all that bad stuff into their conscious life they would explode or break down.

It is just a way that a truly caring person reacts to a steady stream of pain and horror.

Of course, some people want to be ignorant, because it is convenient for them. But more often, I think it is the psychic numbing reaction. Hopefully, no one gets stuck in that state.

What I am saying is that we can save ourselves a lot of hurt if we realise that we may not always be being met with coldness and uncaring people. We may be finding people who are so sensitive that they just can't take anymore sadness.

Advocay is a big part of MaleSurvivor. Any way any of us can be advocates, helps people to come to a clearer understanding of the effects and the size of the problem of all forms of abuse in the USA and beyond.
