I was at a Michael W. Smith concert last night and I wasn't in the mood to praise God until one of Michael's guests, Matt Maher played the song "You were on the cross".

After the concert and in the privacy of my bedroom, I lost it and grieved all that I had lost because of the abuse I received as a child. Then I remembered the words to Matt's song and realized that God, His son, and the Holy Spirit all grieved with me by the son being on the cross.

Here are the lyrics to "You Were On The Cross" by Matt Maher. I hope they minister to you like they did me.

Sam

Lost.
Everything is lost
And everything Iíve loved before is gone
Alone, like the coming of the frost
And a cold winter's chill in my stony heart

Where were You when all that Iíve hoped for
Where were You when all that Iíve dreamed
Came crashing down in shambles around me
You were on the cross

Pain.
Could You take away the pain
If I find someone to blame
Would it make my life seem easier
Alone, all my friends are asleep
And I can't find anyone to stay awake with me

And where were You when sin stole my innocence
Where were You when I was ashamed
Hiding in a life I wish Iíd never made

You were on the cross
My God, my God
All along, all along
You were on the cross
You died for us
All along, all along
You were on the cross
Victorious
All along, all along

You were there in all my suffering
You were there in doubt and fear
I'm waiting on the dawn to reappear

Sam,

This really is good. It speaks to me a lot. For years I wandered in pain and ignorance. I only recently recovered memories and learned of the roots of the pain and loneliness growing up. This restores a sense of perspective. Thanks.

A link to youtube for the song itself.

Even after asking Yeshua (that's Hebrew for Jesus) to come live in my heart - I deep down felt I was still never good enough. Way down inside I thought these things were all true for everyone except me. Then someone said "Don't flatter yourself that you are beyond His reach" one day.It struck me that I was doing just that "O, you can't mean me, Lord. I'm made good enough through You?" The answer is yes, since there really is no way I can do it myself. Then I began to understand the Passover Lamb.
The wording of that song brought tears to my eyes. Yes, He really was there all along. Though the parental abuse/neglect, through the CSA by a neighbor man. Through all the tragedy that has been in my life. He was there - and will remain so forever. Yeshua ha-Meschiach (Jesus the Messiah in Hebrew).

Many_mees,

Thanks for sharing this song and how it touched you.

What I am "aware" of how God - however we define God - God is very angry and saddened by the choices our perpetrators made against us.

God is equally happy for the gift we were each given and that even with the abuse the gift is still there.

A
