yesterday morning I woke up and my left tonsil was hurting and it hurt to swallow.. I looked at my throat with a flash light and my left tonsil got white crap on it, looks kinda redish too.. I stuck a q-tip on it and think blood or something came on it.. I've had really bad taste in my mouth.. and feels like my saliva is thick or.. like mucus or something I keep having to swallow or spit and stuff..
The tonsils are part of the body's normal defense mechanism. Tonsils lie at the strategic spot to intercept bacteria which might invade the body through the mouth or nose. Tonsils contain a lot of disease-fighting tissue.
There are 2 types of bacteria, primarily, to worry about. "Strep" stands for Streptococcus. "Staph" stands for Staphylococcus. Both types of bacteria can be dangerous IF they gain a strong foothold in the body. Some people develop a chronic low-grade staph infection in their tonsils. Then if their body becomes weakened for some reason the staph can become more prominent. This is what it sounds like you have. I think that a doctor would probably give you some kind of an antibiotic that can control either staph or strep. That would probably knock it out in about 5 days.
You can try gargling salt water several times a day. Make the salt water by running hot water out of the faucet - but not hot enough to burn you - stir in a tablespoon full of table salt. Gargle this several times a day. Don't swallow it. This may take care of your infection. If it doesn't get better or starts to get worse, you may need to consult a physician.
